Although the run flats held the wheels together, they are partly responsible for the damage.
In the U.K., our minor roads are pretty poor and 19" BMW rims are cracking on the inside face all over the country. Most of the wheels affected are the rears which sit on 30 profile run-flats. These things might as well be rigid because all road shocks get passed onto the wheel without any cushioning effect from the tyre at all. The wheels always crack on the inside face where the wheel isn't reinforced and have happened to people who have not kerbed the car or smashed into deep potholes (outer face of the wheel is unmarked). BMW will not honour any warranty repair as they say British roads are too poor for the wheels and tyres and they also blame road humps (sleeping policemen). In other words, BMW are saying that 19" wheels and run flats are not fit for purpose for our roads but continue to sell them! Great! We are pretty sure that the run flats are to blame because M cars and Alpinas with 19" wheels don't have these problems - the difference, neither uses run flats. |

Wow! Glad you're OK!! That was NOT a pothole, more like a canyon.

+1 Exactly what I was going to write.

+1 calvino, this is going to come out of your pocket, not the city/county's. You didn't hit a pothole, you went off the road and nailed the edge. Good thing you didn't get hurt! I'm sure you were crapping your pants and am impressed that you didn't lose control. IMO this is something you should take up with insurance like any other accident.

Good time to upgrade...but I wonder, would warranty cover this? I know it's not exactly equipment failer per se, but it sort of is... |

I'm not surprised after seeing the picture, next time stay ON the road. You should be glad that your ok and more damage wasn't done to your car.

While we feel sorry for the OP....
...this damage was caused by hitting an off road obstacle. The authorities have an obligation to keep the areas between the white lines in operational condition, while drivers have the obligation to keep their car between the white lines.
If the pickup truck was on your side of the road, then he (in theory) is responsible for the damage as he ran the OP off the road. In reality, the OP has to pony up to get new wheels and tires. While road obstacles would usually fall under the comprehensive portion of an insurance claim (and wouldn't increase future premiums,) an "off road" excursion such as this would fall under the collision portion and might increase premiums. My suggestions would be to buy a new set of wheels (you can probably reuse the TPMS sensors from the two damaged wheels) and sell the two remaining wheels separately... |

UPDATE: today I took off the wheels to see if there was any damage to the brakes or suspension.
the front wheel did not crack completely it crack 60% the caliper has few scratches and rock chips(not sure if there were there before I paint them about a year ago) the rotor and suspension are intact. the rear wheel is completely crack, the caliper got in contact with the wheel because the paint is pell-off ( probably when I had to drive the 100ft to get off the road), but is not cracked and the rotor and suspension seems fine.

my car does not have Runflats I had Michelin's pilot primacy. I think with RFT the damage would had been even worse.

That sucks! Holy shit.
Didn't even know you guys had potholes in FL. Must have been one hell of a crater to cause that. I would get them checked out to see if the wheels were actually defective. Maybe you'll get a new set from BMWNA. Otherwise, go aftermarket or get some OEM ones from the "for sale" forums here. That's probably your best (read: least expensive) option.
