Looking forward to hearing more from you on this.
Hey don't know if you ever mentioned this but did you reset your trans adaptations ever.. Possibly when you installed your downpipe? I remember someone saying your shifts were quicker than theirs

I've done 2 transmission services (2 fluid changes, 1 included changing the pan/filter) and reset adaptations after both services.

I hear a lot of complaints about the trans, but I think mine is really good. Shifts are quick and firm. There is, however, a longer delay than I like with the paddle shifters and the actual shift ...

Maybe I just don't know what a "good" automatic trans is supposed to feel like?

Like an Allison 1000 with a trans go kit.. That's what a proper auto feels like

You know, I've looked at the videos you've posted and I have to agree that yours seems to shift better than the average 335d.

The update was released over 2 years ago.. This thread was re-born .. Chances are if your 335d has been to the dealership in the last 2 years then you got the update and don't even know it

Actually most were reporting that they didn't get it. Unlike a recall they don't seem to just do software updates when you come in for an oil change or other unrelated work.

What I'm getting at is that the update is so subtle that even if you got it you probably don't realize..

So I have had a bit more time to mess around with my cable and now tried to do the update but had no success. I am getting an error that I am reading is probably because I am missing the .prg I need. The ecu family indicated is gke195. I followed an update procedure online and everything seems to go together until I try to update and get "error 106 - error on setting ecu address"

Anybody know which specific program I need to have in the ecu folder in order to make this update go through?

Alright I got the update finished up. Pretty small changes. What I noticed is the TC lockup has definitely been changed, and it seems to downshift a bit earlier than before when braking. Will need more time with it to know if the funky lockup situations are completely fixed or just better.

Is this something I can ask my dealer to do next time I'm in? Is there a way to check if I have the update?

Read it with INPA, it would be under egs-> identification. There is not one specific stock zb number for the trans, its going to depend on when it was built.

my two penny worth,

mine was low mileage mint late 2007 UK car, the whole car and gearbox was on original software and was an embarrassing disaster. Some times about 1 in 8 gear changes was a hideous shudder and noise that sounded like it was causing damage. The car was updated by BMW in jan 2014 and the box was transformed into a normal auto, that did everything better smoother.... the car was also massively quicker as though the engine was putting out about 10% more low to mid range power and 20% top end.... the economy picked up say 3 to 5% as well

the downside (although may have been there before) this slipping / over torque thing was present under full on acceleration. To me it was exactly like clutch slip (auto box slip but with no nasty noises like you can get when a band slips on an auto). It wasn't always there but it made you think full throttle dry road launches would end up costing me a lot of money and spoilt the car for me. Yet all the chip tune guys where convinced the box is indestructible and I much be mistaken.

pretty sure I wasn't

I know exactly what you mean. It seems to me that the programming changed something in the torque converter clutch application, either the clutch is releasing at high loads where it didnt before or the clutch is being applied with less pressure which allows it to slip at high load. Its not gear specific so it most likely has to do with the torque converter. I have also noticed (not flash related) that the torque converter they picked is way too loose for the application. Of course, they did that to make grandma more comfortable in the car. IMO the stall speed of the TC in a car that only revs to 4500 RPM really shouldnt be 2300-2500 rpm.
