Hi,
I'm wondering, what is the protection that sealants give ? Against what ? UV rays ? Discoloration ? Is there a sealant that protects the clearcoat against fine scratches ?

Think of sealant like long lasting wax. It seals the paint with a protective layer that prevents against the same stuff wax does. However using a car wash is still going to add fine scratches, any sealant or wax you add is a VERY thin layer so physical marring will go through anything you use to seal. Sealant isn't as deep or warm a gloss as wax, but is very shiny. People will often wax over sealant to get the best of both worlds.
I like sealant during the winter because it will last 4-5 months where as wax only lasts a couple months. |
