What's the best brush for multi-spoke wheels?

Ok so I have powdercoated 19" CSL reps on my car and I finding that cleaning them is a PITA. I have been using car soap and water with a microfiber but my hands are too damn big to get in between the spokes.

I've searched online and on this forum but no luck. Because the wheels are shiny black I want to avoid anything that will scratch the surface (even light scratches). All the brushed I saw use a Nylex bristle which I think would cause some light scratches.

Boar's hair would seem like a good choice buth all the brushes I found are too wide to fit in between the spokes. It would work on the face of the wheel but not the inner part.

I even went as far as to try to make my own. I ripped the head off of a luffa and had my girlfriend stitch a microfiber towel in half, then in half again. I then rolled the mircofiber around the the luffa handle. I worked for the fronts but it was too big to get in between the wheel and rotor splash shield in the rear. Maybe if I cut the length of the microfiber and wrap it. It might not be as thick then. Any suggestions on a brush and what type of cleaner to use on powdercoated wheels?

Does the whole brush need to fit between the spokes? I'd just go with a good boars hair brush.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to buy one of these brushes for the face of the wheel. Now I just need something to get in between the spokes to do the barrell portion of the wheel.

I use a combination of the EZ Detail Brush and the Swissvax Wheel Brush for tighter areas and around the lugs.

Thanks. I like the EZ Detail brush but am paranoid that it will scratch. I gues there is only one way to find out...

It shouldn't scratch. It looks stiff in the pictures, but the brush is a lot softer than it looks. The Swissvax brush is very soft.

Ez detail brush is nice, but mine keeps breaking. They need to look into making that thing more robust.

Me, my friend, and a detailer I know, have broke a handful of those, we love them, but they break.

Try the Mr. Clean sheepskin wheel brush if you are afraid of scratching. It's very cheap and you can probably find it at Pep Boys or Autozone. Here is a pic:

Here's an old thread of mine about how to clean my Morr VS7's. It would work for CSL's just as good. It's a bit long.....but maybe you can pull a few ideas out of it.

Thanks! I actually bought this brush last week before I even read your post. It was about $5 at Pep Boys and works perfect. Its super soft and gets the barrel portion of the wheel with no problems.

Nice write up. I did find a good lambswool brush at Pep Boys. The duster is a good idea - looks like it does an excellent job.

It's nice to see people just as anal as me .

I use the EZ detail brush on my M6 reps in between the narrow spokes and so I can reach the flat inner wheel part...works fine, no scratches. If it starts to get worn, be careful, then the metal could cause some problems.
