Open-face, DOT-certified helmet. Bike helmet won't do and neither will a motorcycle helmet if you can't remove the lexan face shield.

Oh, and drive AROUND the water box. No point in doing a burnout on street tires. If you REALLY want to do a burnout in the box, drive around it and back into the water--otherwise your front tires will drag water into the staging area.

Watch the staging lights when you approach the tree. Try to SLOWLY roll into the first stage and then just bump the car forward a few inches to trip the second light. If you deep-stage (first staging light off), they will still activate the tree so don't bother backing up.

Your reaction time has nothing to do with your ET, so feel free to practice some launches on the green until you're well-rehearsed. Try to leave at 3000 RPM to start-- if you bog, you can try for a higher RPM range. If you wheelhop, try a higher RPM or feather the clutch out.

If you want to try for a good R/T, leave on the third yellow.

Ouch is right. It happened in Plano near Classic actually. undercarriage looked good to me on a quick visual inspection, but I'll wait to hear from the insurance company. I actually only sustained a very small rash on the wheel that took the brunt of the impact. Must've hit the thing "perfectly". I'll keep you guys in the know. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll be done for 1/4 mile day. I wanna bring out my new helmet also haha!

They will let you use a motorcycle helmet. Unless it's a sanctioned race, it won't matter. They will not tech that hard. I bought mine from Yamaha in Richardson 9 years ago to use because I didn't want to waste a lot of something I won't use often. I've never had an issue using at any strip I've been to in TX and I've been to this strip before in my S4.

What is the price per run rate? Since Dyno Day is tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what times the cars can put down with what power (documented and not speculated).

Drag strip should be as many runs as you can get in with time allowing. It's 10 or 15 bucks to run I think.

The timetable on my car's repairs doesn't look promising for this event.....

Tell me about it. The estimate is about 3 weeks because the rear quarter panel needs to be replaced as well. It sustained a very small bit of damage right where the door meets up with the panel, but it's bad enough that they want to replace it so the car goes back to "pre-accident condition". I'd rather they do it right and it take a little while longer than have to worry about going back multiple times.

Better to have them do it right, no doubt. I just checked the Dallas Raceway calendar, and they have another Test 'N Tune on Friday, October 15, so maybe you can shoot for that one instead..

I had a good time out there! 4DR Assassin and I were the only 335s that I saw. It was pretty crowded, and from about 8 - 11:45, I was only able to get in 3 runs. The crowd finally cleared out and I was able to get 2 more runs.

I met a lot of cool people and saw some fast cars! I was shooting for a 13.2, but I surprised myself with a 13.1!! I'm curious to see what the rest of you guys would have run, considering I put down a whole lot less than most everyone at dyno day last weekend!

Here's my slip (me on the right) against my buddy in his Z06:

No worries...Like I said, it was a lot of waiting around. The bad thing is, you wait an hour in line for one shot. You mess it up, and you're back in line waiting. I messed up my first 3 launches. I drove past the staging area twice and had to back up. As soon as I got back, the guy started the tree and I didn't get to brake boost like I wanted to!

I finally got it right on my 4th and 5th runs, brake boosting to right at 2000 RPMs. I was able to go below 2.0 for the 60' on both runs. Now I'm curious if I can crack into the 12s with my daily driver setup since I'm a little over a tenth away. I'm thinking if I try launching at 2250 or even up to 2500, I may be able to shave off another tenth or so by the end. Next time!

Video

One of the people that came with us filmed some of our runs using his HD camera. Looks great in 720p. Here was my best run, pretty sweet!

more HD video

Here's a couple more videos from the other night...after this, I promise I'll leave this thread alone

Here was our first runs of the night. I think I was still a little heatsoaked from the drive, a little nervous, etc. We both had bad launches here. My friend eventually ran a 12.8 @ 114 in his C5 Vette, so this run doesn't show much:

This was my last run of the night with barely any cool down from the previous one. Still, I managed a 13.2 and went under 2.0 in the 60.' This SS was a monster, but I surprised him by jumping out so quick:
