Easy for it to know you are in reverse.
How does it know you are parking up front though? Do grannies on pedestrian crossings set it off, or dogs pissing on your bumper?

Hi, I've just retrofitted the front parking sensors into my 2006 e90, and was actually meaning to post a how to, as i could not find much info about it. It is actually not that difficult, and cost me about £450 for the parts. Basically BMW sell a retrofit kit, which has all the wires and brackets etc, you will then need a new PDC controller, the button for the dash, the sensors. BMW charge over £200 each for the sensors so I brought them of eBay instead, and got 4 brand new one's for £40.
Basically remove the front bumper, drill holes (already marked on the back of the bumper) feed wiring through to the boot, and swap out pdc unit. Swap your switch unit out for the new one. If you have prof cd or nav that is all the wiring you need to do! I was expecting to have to have it coded to the car, but it worked straight away, so that saved a trip to BMW! I'll put the kit list together that I used and do a better write up when I get time. Hope this helps a little |

Pretty damn good question...last thing you'd want is it going off all the time when stuck in traffic

I looked into this too and found a dealer selling what he refers to as the retro kit, but I can't work our if anything else is needed. Have a look at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT and see what you think

I've seen that kit before, it goes under the numberplate or something similar, it is a BMW kit, but is not the same as if you ordered the front and rear pdc option on you car when new. The one I fitted is identical to the proper factory fit, I'll dig the part numbers out, but obviously it is more expensive than that one! The 'button' on the dash was around £180!

We had rears fitted on our car by halfords a few years ago. power is taken off the reverse light wiring. It comes complete with audible and visual monitor. cost £60 fitted at the time. Euro-car- parts also sell the kits.
