So you need a unlimited data plan to have maps going all the time. Kinda dumb if you ask me when cic updrade is about the same.....but to each his own

Cic is not the same cost. Here in the UK basic cic install is around £700 Inc coding. Then for combox its extra £200-£300.

This unit is £300ish depending on vendor. Extra for import. Then it's plug and play. Also maps doesn't use much data at all so not sure why you think you need unlimited data. I have 15gb, I use Google maps all the time along with my usual streaming and have never come close to using my data.

I don't have this but everyone I have spoken to has good reviews to give so for the price I think it's worth a risk.

I may go for this, but also want change my ccc controller to a cic model. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

I think you would need a new centre trim. I could be wrong.

Does your CCC main menu have the silver background? if so then it should be plug and play. You will also need the new trim

How practical is the touch screen? The CCC/CIC screens are quite a bit of distance away so I cant see it being very practical when you are stretching over to use it.

Yeah, I would need a new trim, and my ccc menu has the silver background. I'll be searching for the trim and the controller on ebay shortly.

It's not the most convenient location for touchscreen but it's ok. You get used to it

Anyone who has bought this, did you get it from Ali express or the Avin US site? What is the cost like when it comes to import taxes?

I found this one on ebay but it seems a bit more expensive on there.

How are the guys who have fitted this finding it after a few weeks? Have to admit it's very tempting for the money and relatively ease of fitting.

I got one from aliexpress, was £330 delivered and took a week to arrive from Germany (no import tax to pay). I fitted it on Sunday and so far am impressed but haven't used it much. The hardest part of fitting it is finding room for the harness behind the head unit but i would imagine that depends on your current configuration (I have base stereo with CCC sat nav unit), so mine is currently not quite back together with the head unit not pushed all the way back and screwed in as i run out of light on Sunday. This will be sorted as soon as i can get to it with some daylight available but i work from home so don't need the car day to day.

The unit itself boots into whatever you were using last so does not boot into the CCC every time with a need to change it. The pre installed sat nav app (Sygic) does not require data to run and there are others available to suit you're preference but aside from this I haven't played around with it much yet. I have played a couple of tracks from a USB stick and have tested a movie playing which all works well.

Sounds okay, but I've read a few posts from folks who weren't to pleased about the sound. Can you post a link of the unit you purchased. I'm looking for a good supplier, but also a good price. Thanks in advance.

That's the unit i bought. I suppose the sound will depend what stereo setup you have already but coming from the base stereo i think its better. There is a couple of settings you can change for audio (bass, mid and treble) and a few pre set equaliser settings but as it's android you can download an equaliser app too to get more settings. I'm still looking to amplify my stereo but i wanted to do that before this screen replacement

Is installation pretty straight forward?

Really tempted to get one of these to replace CCC soon.

For the money they look awesome.

yep installation is easy enough apart from fitting the harness in behind the stereo.
The harness connects to the back of the stereo with the existing harness connecting to the other side of the new harness and you need to feed a cable up to the back of the new screen. There is a GPS receiver that I've left behind the screen and it works fine and a USB cable that I'll feed into the glovebox when i get a chance.
There are a number of connections provided to power on dashcams, reverse cams etc when the screen comes on but I've no need for any of these.

Thanks for the info.

Did you get a GPS splitter to be able to use the OEM nav as well?

How easy was it to feed the usb lead into the glovebox?

I didn't get a GPS splitter as the standard sat nav has sent me on so many diverted routes i have no intention of using it now but having just checked i can still use it without the need of a splitter. The new GPS antenna connects to the back of the screen whereas the existing antenna connects to the back of the stereo.
I haven't fed the USB into the glovebox yet but it shouldn't be difficult, just need to remove the glovebox to get to the back of it and remove a blanking plate where CIC USB would fit anyway
