I noticed the Valvetronic Motor Gasket was leaking oil slightly. I don’t think nearly that quantity of oil was actually leaking though. I think the vacuum leak around the valvetronic motor was allowing oil to be sucked into the intake manifold through the pcv systems and get burned off.

Once I changed the valvetronic motor gasket consumption returned to normal. Also check your pcv hoses, valve cover gasket, and the pcv manifold connections.

i was looking for potential oil leaks but i found none. i inspected all my spark plugs, found 3 that were bad, i assume it was from the faulty ccv, installed a 3IM and replaced the entire ccv system. the 3im wasnt that difficult to install because i purposely broke off all the hoses. i had replacements ready. still a pain in the ass tho. i'll update again after 1500 miles hopefully this solves the problem.

I'm at 170,000 KM's on my N54 and do 5,000 KM's oil change intervals and usually don't burn anything according to my gauge. I went once on an 10,000 KM interval and needed to add 1 liter of oil during that time.

10 000km since my last change and getting close to the minimum but not there yet. Having the oil change done now.
3 years with this car and I only had to top oil up once where for some reason it just burned through about 1l of oil on a road trip after I had a new HPFP installed. I do 10 000km/1 year oil changes.
N55.
First year was mostly PPK tune, second year MHD Stage 1, 3rd year MHD Stage 2+ with supporting mods.

I changed my oil last with the TT 5w30 with a new filter and washers. I’m coming up on 5,000 or 7,500. Either way I wrote down the mileage to change it out at. I’m about 1k away from when I was going to change it. Dealer said he noticed oil under engine during routine inspection as my car was in for something else. Checked yellow box. Week goes by and I get the low level light and am told to add the 1 quart. Threw in the 1 and now it says it’s full. Bad sensor? Tempted to just take it to the dealer for the change because it’s not much more than if I did it on my own. I also wonder if they do that stuff knowing that you’ll come back to them whenever something is wrong.

Bought my 2010 E92 335i new and not once have I had to add oil due to the low oil warning. The oil is changed once a year by my trusted independent BMW mechanic and yes I have had the typical oil leaks addressed (OFHG, VCG, OFHG oil cooler hose and inlet) and taken care of by him, yet none of that has resulted in having to add oil. IDK, maybe it’s because I caught them early before they could get worse.

I was half a quart low at 95,700. Last oil change was 88,500, so I changed the oil anyway (7500 mile OCI). I have a 2009 335i, major oil leaks (VCG, OFHG) addressed at around 80K. Hopefully this trend continues!

I get the oil changed every 7,500 miles. Normally it's still "full" as per the electronic meter. But twice and only twice the level has dropped to near minimum before 7,500 miles. The first time it happened I asked my oil place to check for leaks, they said it was clean as a whistle down there (oil wise) and told me they sometimes see turbo BMW's do this. The second time it happened I had the dealer check it too - they said the same thing.

Never, my N52 doesn't burn a drop. All my other cars burned oil, Honda = yes, Volvo = only a very tiny amount.

Zero here, has always said OK and full....I know it's a big debate...is this oversimplification remotely correct? On new cars that need oil between changes, is it the PCV system that often causes it? As opposed to the rings...so it's more of an annoyance than a defect?

At what mileage did you have to address the OFHG?

Never. I'm usually 3-4 qt. - 1 qt. low at ~6k at which point I just change the oil. I have an oil pan gasket leak too so I wonder if I could reduce its consumption further by fixing that.

Probably a little. But you could probably also do 50 oil changes for the cost of one OPG replacement at a shop...
