Blown Speakers - What to replace with?

Hi guys,

I have an e92 with what I believe is the bass sound system (no tweeters in the doors). I also have a small sub fitted with a built in amp. One of the speakers on the passenger side has blown and it sounds awful. Can't figure out as yet whether it is the underseat one or the front door speaker.

Question is what do I replace them with? I don't want to spend huge amounts of money and ideally want to avoid fitting amps etc. Straight forward plug and play would be ideal.

I had Logic 7 in my previous 335d and the sound was pretty much perfect for me, so something aftermarket with that kind of output would be great if possible.

Hi there, without going the amped route you're quite limited because of the weak power output of the stock head unit however, you would get away with these in the front and rear - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MB-Quart-...sAAOSwEK9TyQNy

They are co-axial so have tweeters built in though you would probably want your head unit coded for HiFi as the stock EQ pattern massively compensates for the pathetic stock mids in the doors. They are straight plug and play and would be a marked improvement over stock but without going the amped route, you're not getting L7 sound!

Have you considered the Alpine upgrade?

What kind of budget are you working with?

Thanks for your detailed response mate and the link too, very helpful. For now I'm going to order the speakers you recommended. At a later date I can look at amp options.

I remember reading a post about the Alpine upgrade on here but I assumed it would be expensive.

As for getting the headunit coded, is that a diy job, bmw specialist job or audio specialist job?

No problem. With regards to the coding, you might find a forum member might be able to help you out there, drop a message in this thread - https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...704363&page=35

EDIT: Just found this on fleabay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E92-9...IAAOSw~K9bHD6z

It would be better to go the Alpine route for sure, then use a pair of those MB Quarts for the rear.
