I'd buy some off of you. I'm just up north near Sioux Falls. A simple padded envelope will suffice. Let me know!

You guys don't like having to explain why the console section of your BMW rattles at stop lights?

I'm in DFW and will buy enough for two total replacements from you. ( 8 thread expansions and 8 bolts)

The tabs in the front of my air filter aren't stripped (yet). But I might as well go ahead and get them too. Thanks for the heads up.

1- Drill the plastic thread with the adequate drill bit size according to whichever insert you ordered.

2- Use some type of glue for plastic to make it stronger.

3- Push/hammer the insert inside the drilled hole.

4- Done.

Materials that I used:

- Brass Press-Fit Expansion Insert P/N: 94510A050

- M6x1 Screw P/N: 98093A436

- JB Plastic weld

Note: I would not recommend getting the same insert I used because I found out they are a little too big. It would have worked better with a smaller one.
A better one to use would be:

- Brass Press-Fit Expansion Insert P/N: 94510A045
http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/enter.asp?partnum=94510A045

- M5x0.8 screw P/N: 98093A432
http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/enter.asp?partnum=98093A432

Great work!

The part number you provided seems to be for a M6x1.

I'm going to order 100 of each of these:
  • 94510A045: Brass Press-Fit Expansion Insert for Plastics w/o Flange, M5 X 0.8 Internal Thread, 9.5mm Length
  • 98093A436: Nonmarring Class 10.9 Flange Head Cap Screw Steel, M5 Size, 16mm L, .8mm Pitch, Fully Threaded

If anyone wants a few, please e-mail me (nivedhm at Google's e-mail service) and we can split the cost. Just let me know how many sets you need (1 set = 6 pairs).

I provided the part numbers that I used and the part numbers I suggest.

The screws you are going to order are too long for the fittings that you are ordering.

Again, go with 94510A045 together with 98093A432 (12mm long)

98093A432 is a M6x1. Did you mean 98093A312 (M5x0.8, 12mm L)?

You can order the inserts individually on Amazon although they hit you pretty hard on the shipping cost.

Thanks for confirming and for the info! This is a much better way of fixing the issue than my original plastic-weld-only way, which didn't last long.

I just ordered:
  • 98093A312: Nonmarring Class 10.9 Flange Head Cap Screw Steel, M5 Size, 12mm L, .8mm Pitch, Fully Threaded
  • 94510A045: Brass Press-Fit Expansion Insert for Plastics w/o Flange, M5 X 0.8 Internal Thread, 9.5mm Length

I'll have 15 sets left-over. Whoever wants them, $8/set should cover everything (shipping included). Please e-mail me here: nivedhm at Google's e-mail service.

It used to be an exciting conversation piece, and don't forget the waste gate rattle on cold engine. But alas I don't need conversation pieces anymore.

I think we should just pay NivedH and save the trouble. One of my friends work at a company called fastenall, i think he'll hook me up, but it might still be cheaper to go the NivedH route.
