Custom tune benefits vs OTS MHD stage 1+
2011 e90 n55 AT w/ the following mods -
Vrsf chargepipe Mishimoto fmic Xhp stage 3 This is my daily driver running mhd stage 1+ for the past year with no plans to get a downpipe due to being in LA and having to deal with smog. Also only going to use pump gas. Anyone with experience with running a custom tune with just a fmic and chargepipe upgrade? Any thoughts on whether getting a custom tune would be worth it or should I just stick with the mhd ots stage 1+? |

I’d get a custom tune for an e30 mix. That would yield some nice gains. Otherwise without a downpipe and on crappy CA gas there is only so much you can do.

If you want to make more power you'll need higher octane to do it. If you're not willing to do the downpipe then I would just stay with what you're currently running.

That's just stock plus FMIC with the worst gas in the US.
I wouldn't even run an OTS map. Factory map, or PPK at most.

Thanks for the input guys. I thought as much - not willing to go through the trouble of doing an e30 mix.
Mhd 1+ runs fine tho so I guess that's pretty much all that there is to do. Curious if I'd be able to squeeze out a bit more performance and drivability through a custom tune. |

The drivability could be slightly different depending on the tuner you would choose. The power won't be noticeably different with your mods and octane. I would assume that you're having a handful of timing corrections on the OTS map so there wouldn't be much to gain by going custom.
