I recommend the blasting also...I was skeptical of process but after it was done I had a small baggy of carbon given to me by shop...have 144k on car and Strickly BMW said it clogged machine at one point. once done I have noticed engine much smoother and even sounds a little different..like better bottom end grunt. Best decision I have made for overall service needs of car.

I did mine locally here in South Africa, car at 115000kms and is an n54 motor, I am posting the link to my review on a local forum with pics and I am sure non of the mods will mind since I am on another continent and won't upset the local advertisers...
http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=50144 It was worth every cent and the difference is night and day... |

I'm pulling my intake manifold off tonight and I'm going to be cleaning my intake ports manually. I'm going to rotate the crank to close each cylinders valves and let some solvent soak in the valves for an hour or so. Then I'll be using a really fine brush or a Dremel with brush on it to scrub the valves and remove all the carbon.
Then I will be vacuuming out all the junk. It's going to be time-consuming I would expect probably about six hour job but it's definitely worth it.

No but they are circular per port and don't need to be replaced.

Here's a few pics. Also does the gasket on the intake manifold look ok to reuse? I am thinking it does.

you can... however would be a good idea to replace if you can if they don't seal correctly you will get a boost leak. if you insist on reusing them clean both surfaces thoroughly. or just come to texas

Is there a specific bolt sequence for the intake manifold?
I got Everything clean just have to wait till tomorrow so I can get something smaller to get around the bottom of the valves. I'm trying to find a brush that's used to clean handguns which are good for intake ports.

Here's a picture of my spark plugs they seemed kind of dirty and there was what it seemed like metal melting or stacking up in front of the Electrolode.
One of the plugs had a chalky yellow powder on it. Do these look bad for 63?
