The lifting arms are back in and working again. I got a coat or two of primer on them but they will need some cleaning up to be presentable. I am convinced that I will need to make the lifting arms longer so the actuator is not working quite so hard....
The temporary wood blocks and plywood are there just to test the system... Have a great New Year everybody! JP |

post a vid question
not too much to report, but I had charged the battery and it made a big difference in how much better the actuator motor sounded when going through its travel.....
I still think I need longer lift arms on this thing....but it works really well....the wooden ramps seem to be angled well, ect. now I just gotta get the real runners and ramps built. question: I would like to post a short video of the top in action...any suggestions? thanks all JP |

got some body work done to match the real deal and bombed on some primer:
Since I am working on using a linear actuator (screw type lifting mechanism) on the real one, I tried to find a miniature one for the model .No luck...not that I could afford anyway...so I found these guys making their own for the robotics and RC industry out of chap stick tubes and adapted the idea for my little trailer here. I didnt go so far as to hook up a motor and potentiometer to limit travel and such like they did, but I left the screw knob attached, shortened the tube and added the "piston" by making up some aluminum tubing glued in place...... Here it is in the "down" position: The knob: and in the "up" position: Its getting there...I have the tonneau cover made from black styrene sheet....A few rounds with sanding and priming and I should be ready for paint in a few days. thanks for looking! never too late for a little progress....
finally got to do a little work on the trailer today....I had these pieces cut and basically shaped for the corner area....and finally decided to get the welder out and have a go...
the foam worked very well as a backer and gave much needed support for the metal...and guess what...it didnt catch fire! bonus! heres the first pic....it should be 5-6 pieces in total...4 are on now...it looks a bit Frankensteinish but I like the overall shape and think with some finishing, its a keeper. bottom corner: I ended up using the shrinker/stretcher and it worked great for the curved edges CAD design upper piece...this may end up being 2 pieces of metal.... and the whole thing.... the weather is supposed to turn bad tomorrow....so I gave it all a coat of primer while I take time to shape the upper piece. its still removable and I may dig the foam out of there. If I do, I may end up putting one or two gussets inside to be sure it has enough strength....but once its welded in place, Im sure it will be very strong. until next time...thanks for lookin JP |

Got a bit more done on the front corner....actually, Im almost done with this one!....I wanted to do the top piece from 1 sheet of metal...so I just took my time and massaged it to fit...then pie cut the overlaps.
Outside Inside and just sitting in place on the trailer I should be able to get that welded in this week and then continue to adjust the door gap....its pretty close.... thanks for lookin JP |

Finished the basic shape of the first corner....I have more final shaping to do on it, but its basically there.
I added weld to continue the body line around the corner and I think it came out pretty good and the top of the corner I still need to adjust the door gap as it nudges the metal a bit in a couple of spots as it opens. So Ill finish up the details and its on to the other side. I think I can get this done in one piece with a few pie cuts designed in, or two pieces... thanks for lookin JP |
