Did this to mine like 4 or 5 years ago and never had issues since, still working like a top!

Just thought i'd update this - i did this on mine over the weekend, took 20 minutes to do both sides and that included taken one back off as i forgot to place the rear cover back on.

There was no visible corrosion on the plugs on mine, but i sprayed down with some electrical contact cleaner and used some wire wool to rough up the surface abit and finished off with some dielectric grease - can say my phantom mirror issues haven't reared their head again this week; previously i'd have to readjust every other time the car was unlocked so thumbs up from me!

I've been ignoring this for years. Time to get it fixed.

Is it just me or is the original DIY instructions gone?

Anyone care to recap?

Along with this, anyone ever try to grease the folding joints (maybe I should take this to another thread?). Mine seems to be moving slower and louder than before.

To anyone that tried this and didn't work, I'm part of that group... . My issues is just the passenger mirror folding down and not returning to correct location when going from reverse to park and also moves when locking car.

I cleaned all the terminals, greased them up and it worked fine for the initial test and then started not working and doing the same crap. My diagnostic tool is giving me an error for this module. Mine looks to be truly bad and needs replaced

I have a similar issue- most likely from the previous owner's use of a car wash. When I use the mirror-fold button I hear a loud crank and pop sound coming from drivers side mirror and same going back down.
As soon as this happens, it is misaligned with the main arm and have to manually pop it back into alignment. This happens every time I use the mirror fold or if I go a bit too fast the wind pushes it out of alignment as well.

Is there anything I can do without breaking it/taking it apart? Do I just have to push it backwards against the mal-alignment?

Quick Question for those who have done this repair.

What size torx head is on the screw that holds in the motor?

I am traveling to California next week and on the agenda is repairing this issue on my daughter's car and am hoping to take as few tools as possible on the plane!

Thanks in advance for anyone who can provide that info!!!

Excellent info, this fixed my problem!

I ended up not sanding anything, instead I used the CRC QD Electronic Cleaner on both contacts and blew them out with compressed air, followed by Permatex Dielectric Grease.

I didn’t find any corrosion on driver mirror which moves up or down on its own. It has been doing for years and I got use to it lol

I'm one of the few people that has tried this and didn't work.

My mirror misadjusts every time I open the door or press the memory button.

I have used sand paper for cleaning the pins and applied contact cleaner in both sides. There was visible blue corrosion in the pins.

Tried again and was still working wrong. Should I apply compressed air into the female connector or dielectric grease instead of just contact cleaner?

I was getting an error code too for mirror motor malfunction.

My first thought was blame the wife! But then after looking at the position, it made no logical sense, and I knew she had not driven it since I had last so she was off the hook (this time).

So I looked online and found this was a common problem for 08’s and BMW had put out a TSB for this issue about a bad electrical connection to the mirror’s motor. I suspected mine was due to washing my car all the time sorry, I LOVE MY BIMMER. My car is not under warranty, and a lot of the comments said their dealerships just did a straight replacement of the mirror motor. I quickly looked at the price of a mirror and a motor and panic soon followed! So I did a little investigating myself and thought I would share it with others who may have the same problem. The first thing I discovered is the mirror and the motor are two separate pieces and you replace them quite easy without having to remove the door panels, etc. I apologize if anyone else has this posted somewhere else, I could not find it, and saw TSB 513608 and was left kind of scratching my head a bit. Honestly, even if it was covered, this is a 15 minute job and quite honestly not worth the drive and wait to take it to a stealership IMO. I hope this helps!

Edit:
I have since found they carry the dielectric grease at most major auto stores for a couple of bucks.
Works brilliantly. Thanks 😁👍🏻
