probably get alot better quality with a newer generation codec.
It doesn't support ogg. Wma and aac are supported.
Both are lossy compressions and I want to use lossless (the sound is much better).

Which MP3 encoder are you using? I am not an audiophile per se, but I have very discerning ears. 320k MP3 sounds indistinguishable from the source CD to me. Make sure you are using LAME though; it's the best encoder.

BTW, WMA does support lossless encoding. Not sure if it's compatible with the car though.

If you need to cart around more than 100/200 albums in your car, there might be a slight problem.

I currently have over 59000 songs and it takes up over 400 Gig of space so it just will not fit on a 16 or 32 gig thumb drive.

Oh and by the way. When I want to listen to a particular song i would rather have it than not so YES i do need to carry more than 100/200 albums in my car. I want it all there so i can access it.

After reading your reply I tried WMA lossless. It is compatible with the car and the sound is very good.
Thanks for your advise.

Thanks!

Try reformating the thumbwheel fresh as FAT32. Even then just a reformat sometimes won't remove the third party management software that some manufacturers embedd into the the thumbwheel. My brother had a couple thumbdrives that I had to find a special program to remove the software so that the device drivers would quit causing errors in Vista.

iPOD Interface

I have the new E92 and the USB port is all that is need to connect a HD which works like everybody is talking about in this thread. I even use the media card on my Blackberry 8800, works just like the HD although I noticed it does take a little longer to fwd/rvse selection.

My question to you all is, is there a way to use the IPOD interface instead of the BMW interfaces? I don't have (or want) iDrive and fine the little two line radio display hard to use.

It would be great to have an iPOD Touch interface but have the digital quality of the USB port instead of the AUX digital/audio/digital lossy port.
