Big Brake Upgrade on a 335i

Have any 335i owners carried out any form of Big brake upgrade? Maybe something like the F8x M3/M4 set up.

My brakes are ok but Eventually I would want something more visually appealing and obviously better at stopping.

For most the 335i set up is big enough and with some tarting up they look ok too, definitely a good upgrade for other models with lesser brakes

i can supply you a big brake upgrade from tarox, but they arnt cheap. it would be around £1800 for a 6 pot caliper, 2 piece bell and disc and braided lines. complete bolt on kit.

PM me if you would like a quote.

I always think the powdercoated E82/E88 135i calipers look much nicer, the rears require a bit of work but the fronts are bolt on I think. It's also really hard to find a non-chipped set.

I've got an E90 325i that I've retrofitted the 340mm blue brembo set up off of a F30 330D, complete plug and play which was ideal.
The 378/380mm off the F80 M3 would've required modification to some extent so I was happy to stick to the 340mm setup.

You can get the 370mm M performance brake kit off the F30 335i. You would obviously need the correct calipers for it and not the 340mm version. Direct bolt on replacement.

More than enough for anyone id of thought......

Im running the 340mm version on mine on the front. The rears require modifying so id personally stay clear of that.

With the stock OEM brakes on the E9x 335i being 348mm disc is it really worth the cost to move to 340mm setup from F3x. Those blue caplier sets are very popular with owners of E9x and low spec Fx owners so not cheap.
I appreciate there will be some increase in performance as the Fx caliper has 4 pistons.

I would have thought if going for the upgrade from 348mm, go for the 370mm setup.

Just my 2 cent

This is exactly what I was thinking, if there is a noticeable braking performance increase to be had despite the "oh-so" slightly smaller discs then I suppose it is worth the upgrade/cost, especially as they bolt straight on (the fronts at least). And they do look decent.

That said, the stock 348mm and big single are not bad at all with decent pads and discs.....

Well yeah bigger is always better but generally the 370mm calipers go for 500quid and the 340mm ones 300quid. Then theres the discs.

Id rather have 4 piston calipers and the looks, for the sake of 8mm of disc.

I sometimes wish id gone 370mm, but I probably wouldn't of even upgraded, but when I got the car it had awful mtec discs and pads all round so they needed changing straight away and I found a good deal on the 340mm calipers.

I also sold my old 335i front calipers for over 200quid as I refurbed em so was a worthhile upgrade for myself.

So the 4 pistons fit straight to the front of the E92? Just need to upgrade disk + pads to match the caliper ?
Correct.

There is a massive thread on this in the brakes and suspension section.

I’ve come across some 6 pot Porsche Panamera calipers that look nice, not too bad for price in my opinion for under £1000

365x36mm discs aswel should improve it, not a huge improvement in size but I imagine the pad surface area is much larger.

Has anyone come across these before as with a quick search on here nothing really came up?

I’ve gone with full front/rear Alcons.

Superb but pricey.

M5/M6 6 pot calipers from an F series are also an option.

However I think they use a 400mm disc and run 19” as standard so you’d need to upgrade wheels if you haven’t already.

But they are cheap to pick up second hand, may need custom brackets made also. All in will be under 2k for 400mm 6 pots

On my e91, 330i LCI I have installed 340mm F series brembos.

On my e90 335I I have purchase 370MM F series front callipers and rear callipers, last week.
I have also purchased 19" wheels for this car as 370mm doesn't fit over 18's

The rears are being fitted with a eccentric bushes to go into the callipers from nice chap in poland who is on this forum. this is needed as the pitch needs to be adjusted by approx 3mm to fit 345mm rear e60 disks - then everything is bolt on and nothing is chopped to fit...

Ideally if you fit front and rears you should change the master cylinder for a m3 variant version to accommodate more fluid transfer. For fronts only as per my e91 a stock MC is fine. For anything less than a 335I it is recommend that sport braking is coded to the DSC module and VO, apparently the 335I has this coded by default.

Disks are easily bought, Im using Zimmerman disks specified for the F class with the exception of the rears which are 535I e60 disk with a 63mm offset, that I got cheapest from Autodoc with some TRW pads and e90 brake wear sensors. Original e90 flex hoses also work fine, albeit you may want to upgrade to e90 spec steel ones..

Needles to say use of INPA and Pressure bleeder (not vacuum) is necessary in order to get a good stiff pedal, it worth changing the clutch fluid at the same time as BMW garage like to forget to do this and while your down there might swell do a CDV delete...

Thats about it really... any question feel free..

What did you do to fit the front - was it a shim on the hub?

How is the rear setup? have you made a bracket?

or are you using e9x M3 front and rear hubs/spindles?x

I have 3 sets of 18's that fit over the 370 calipers... So whilst tricky they can be found....

I fitted the 370/380 calipers up front, (direct plug and play bolt on, with the correct 370mm disc).

Then fitted the performance rears on the rears, had to use the performance disc from the e92 330, but it was all bolt on, no mods.

Pedal feel is much better and it stops with no drama.

I did the braided hoes too.

I have a m3 Master too, but not fitted as the pedal is fine.
