Bavarian Technic help
I know I shouldn’t have pulled out the obdii harness when I did , so yuck it up...
However has anyone encountered this. I am using version 1.9.5.1 on a 2009 328xi. I had pulled some fault and shadow codes, reset codes. I then performed a short test all units, the car started to flash in the instrument cluster , then the wipers came on slow, the hazard lamps stopped flashing, mayhem ensued. The cable said it wasn’t communicating with the program. The car is now dead. I unhooked the battery as the P light on the gear selector was on and some engine relay was cycling on and off. I re attached the battery and when I insert the fob, the wipers turn on really slow and the instrument cluster flashes in a very quick fashion. I hooked up another battery to the “jump” terminals and the car then turns on normally, but will not start. Thus I assume I can access the obdii port with an extra battery hooked up to run the program again. I contacted BT support and was basically told sorry, we only deal with software and hardware. You’d think they’d have some idea, I mean they wrote it. |

why would you pull out the OBD harness?
You need it for SMOG checks if nothing else. To get support here you will have to have INpa or ista or the bimmertech pro tool or Carly . I can't think of anybody that uses the Bavtool here. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ Maybe you blew out the OBD instrument cluster fuse that supply's 12 volts to the OBD connector. |

https://www.google.com/search?q=BMW+...h2OlnAL3HtV-M:
what is the actual voltage at the jump terminals without anything attached. You might try a hard reboot of the car by detaching the battery at the negative terminal for a few minutes. There needs to be a voltage at the power pin 16 on the obd connector to power and type of diag setup preferrably 12 volts as it is connected to the battery though a couple of fuses. Fuse

I checked the 5 amp fuse, the bottom left, third fuse from left. I believe that’s the fuse you are referring to? It was ok. |

Damn Battery, the unknown factor in coding fups
Quote:
On a personal front after my bav tool wanked, I determined that my battery didn’t have the power to conduct the tests. I charged the battery after re energizing it on a drip charge .Got in the car and started that bad ass up. No problem. Word to the wise and not so wise, it’s obvious to not obdii ii any vehicle without amperage and good battery strength. My battery showed no signs of weakness during my obdii testing, until all hell broke loose. E90 2009 64,000 miles.....guess I could use a new battery...... |

weak battery's can cause these cars to act like it is
possessed by evil spirits. I don't know if you can blame the bavtool for a flat battery But the Inpa suite and Ista D is more powerful. That list was generated by George it basicly has the keys to the kingdom in it. If you see Georges diagnosis he basically gives a 5th level diagnosis every time. You will see his mind blowing responses on the main subforum.(general) Read about the Intelligent battery system in the first of the following links electical e90 pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU If you are working on the car with the battery attached it will draw .5 amps If your battery is already weak it can kill it. And these cars are known battery hogs. Average battery life is 6 years.
