There is a Mobil 1 product that is LL-04 compliant that comes in 5W-30. Pep boys sells it but it's like $12-$13 per L. Pep boys runs a sale about once a year where you get 5 L and one filter for like $35 if I remember right. You have to do this twice to get enough oil (need 7.5L or 8 qt).

Enough of the oil, what is going on with your drain plug mess ?

EDIT: Mobile 1 ESP 5W-30 was the specific product.

I always do liqui moly. I get it from a place in Greensboro 7.00 or $7.50 (can't remember) per quart. But I'm a former golf tdi owner who always used liqui moly so I'm biased.

I run T6 as well. I'll post up a OA from Blackstone once I get it back.

T6 has become the unofficial oil of the diesel section. It's been proven with great results via analysis' and also relatively cheap ($60 per change with OEM filter).

Greck is running stock setup so he likely needs to be careful with the oil that best protects him from spoiling his DPF. I'm a Rotella T6 guy too but offering oils that I think fall into Greck's sector.

I'll ask again. What has happened with the drain plug? I had to chase pan threads with a tap but there was hardly any resistance at all to turning the tap. M12 x 1.5 i think but will double check for you.

I ran this low ash oil in my TDI when I had a DPF in place. Very good oil.

Basically I bought a car with leaking oil drain plug and after 2 oil replacement thread came out with the drain plug... I already re-threaded it with M14x1.25, but when I tried to torque it to 25Nm - it failed again I'm lucky one, you know...

I've got one on as well. It's a lifesaver. I wonder if the new SX series with a banjo bolt will be a tad shorter.

Isn't it, it makes it just that much easier and faster. Not many guys know about them. When they see how it works, they seem really skeptical about buying 1, but once they lock in, it doesn't open. Think we should make a post on it?

So sorry to hear this news. I did verify your torque. 25 N-m is correct for M12x1.5 drain plug according to BMW workshop manual. Thus converts to 18.4 lb-ft. It sounds as though the threads were over torqued prior to when you got the car. I'm surprised that the M14 failed too. I torque that bolt by hand (box end wench) and likely below the 18.4 lb-ft. You're just trying to crush the copper washer enough to seal.

There are a few avenues to go down but they likely involve pulling the oil pan. That's a biggie in this car with cross member removal being the major task. Andrew covers this in his DIYs when he had to work on his oil pump. Best of luck.

EDIT: Adding in FixmyVW.com DIY link. I was mistaken that it was Andrew's thread on sub frame drop. Another guy wrote it but there is a link to it there. Its under heading Engine Mechanical and topic is "DIY E90 Oil Pan Gasket and Subframe Drop". Link: http://www.fixmyvw.com/bmw-DIY/
Andrew did write a thread concerning his oil pump problem so it may help too.

T6 is low sap and DPF friendly.

I don't know if T6 would meet the low ash requirements of LL-04 though which I think is what BB was referring to.
