Congrats and thank you for the lead Sendmewagons. Looks like Bluewater over Oyster, she’s a beaut

Yeah, my transport guys is very quick and don’t waste time when it comes to picking up cars. Never had an issue and always ahead the best price around especially with closed transport.

It is mindblowing the money people spend on BaT E91s, especially from 1600veloce. He really knows how to butter them up and get a premium. The current one for sale is already at 11k with 4 days remaining. I wouldn't pay 10k for that car.

For real. There are 15 cars on AutoTrader right now that beat that one up on BaT.

Agree! You can get an enthusiast owned and better specced E91 on the forums here for similar end prices than these low spec versions.

That's what dealers do. He has figured out a loophole. Most of the time if you're gonna be selling used cars you have to buy them at an insurance or dealer auction to get a cheap enough price to be able to flip it after fixing for good money on the used market. The fact that he is able to buy a car from say Autotrader (which is by no means the cheapest site) and polish it up and sell it on BaT for a massive profit goes to show how crazy the people on that site are.

He's buying them from auto auctions according to Carfax.

Is he then the only one that knows the true market for these cars at the auctions? Seems like it.

No. He is a dealer who has an in with BaT, the place where they go for way over normal market price because he butters them up.

It's the buyers that are hard to explain or understand. Anyone can look at AutoTrader or CarGuru to see what these cars are worth. The 6MT are hard to value because there are so few of them, but if that automatic goes for more than $14-16K, then those people are nuts. ..... well, the >$30K 6MT recently was nuts too...

I think even though the buyers are nuts it's also because bring a trailer still to this day has the aura that stuff posted there is the best of the best. So people that go there are people looking to get the best e91 or thinking that they're getting it and don't care about how much they have to pay for it. Add to that some professional pictures and a car that seems to be in perfect shape.

BaT, EAG...its the same thing. For whatever reason people are spendy with covid lockdown (saving money by not vacationing?), and prices are ridiculous lately across the board. As long as people continue to patronize these sites, they will continue to command premiums. Possibly people feel more comfortable with BaT cars because of the level of detail in pictures, carfax, etc? Its such a peanut gallery though - unless you bring something sweet to the table, be prepared to have it ripped apart.

Rare is rare, and I get people bidding up m-sport manual e91s, but it does boggle my mind when people pay what they do for these run of the mill AT examples - especially when not even sport nor low mileage. I have heard that BaT is severely backlogged with listings, so I am sure they do play favorites with letting frequent sellers jump the line...which is unfortunate.

C&B seems to be more reasonable than BaT for now, a couple E91s on there sold for very reasonable prices. Let's hope it stays that way.

Why would you want your car to be worth less money? I'm loving every minute of this. I paid a premium for my low milage 1 owner RWD/6 to begin with, and almost sold it as I didn't want to spend a fortune converting to OEM M sport once I put the list together (I thought I was already underwater on the car). Now that the car has appreciated, I've been comfortable investing into it. I hope the prices keep going up so I can justify an ESS supercharger next!

What I've done so far:

New M sport steering wheel
New M sport door sills
New ZHP knob
New M sport Front Bumper, fogs and all the under trimmings
New M sport Rear Bumper, diffusor
New OEM BBK front and rear
Newly powder coated 194M's with new Conti DWS
Used M sport hex alum interior trim
Trading my halogens plus cash to a friend for OEM xenons in next few weeks

Please let me know if you have a lead on any of the following:
Looking for black headliner, A, B, C pillars. May buy the pillars new, but the headliner is silly expensive.
Looking for manual black heated sport seats. I have a set of pre LCI sport seats that I was going to consider removing skins and retro fitting to my manual seats, but too much work and I don't want to risk ruining my original seats.

I think you are on to something because they declined my wagon at no reserve? I think they are favoring dealers than private sellers...

There is no rhyme or reason. They declined a 40k mile 2003 540i/6 from me a few years ago, then approved it when the buyer ultimately listed it there.

They declined a super clean 2004 330i/6 sport from me and then list 325i base steptronics and other cheesy e46 cars....

I agree - Doug D's C&B is a great concept, but until it catches on like BaT, there just wont be the traffic to drive up prices to the same level.

Glad you kept your wagon and are building it out - it will be worth the effort!

It has turned into a flippers paradise. BaT was a neat concept when it started several years ago: quirky cars that were hard to find on the open market and owned by fellow enthusiasts who have cared for them. They've since scaled and clearly favor some dealers and users who all seem to buy to resale. It's just turned into a glorified car dealership network.

They declined my M Sport 128i 6MT a couple years ago that was clean, no accident history, 2nd owner CPO car with a very reasonable reserve of $10k. Ultimately sold it to a private buyer here on the forums for mid-teens.

The latest E91 being sold by 1600veloce is the absolute worst spec'ed example you can find. Pre-LCI, ugly beige interior with non-sport seats, AWD + automatic, accident history and it's from the northeast to boot! He puts some spit shine into these cars and throws them on the auction and people pay well above market. Yes it's a lower mileage example but that's about all it has going for it imho. I'm happy that E91s are selling at high prices but it's annoying that BaT has turned into a monopoly catering to a few sellers.

I think it makes a lot of sense for BaT to be picky.
They may play favourites with sellers because they know, which seller will actually sell the car and they are a business and want sales to happen.

So, it's better to generate "suspense" and "need" by spreading the listings a bit.
It's better (for them) to have one E91 every 3 months than 5 in one week.
