Just get the turbo mani coated once you have it fitted up and can confirm fitment.

It will reduce under bonnet temps and you can have it coated in a range of colours so it wont look so shitty once its been heat cycled.
Yep that's the plan mate. A sand blast to clean them up and then a ceramic coat.... as for the colour, hmmm I don't know, maybe space grey lol

Have a Motiv tune lined up mate, I ended up getting a boost box controller and a mac solenoid for the ST setup. Just need to get it back on the road and run a stock map for a while. No point putting it up on the dyno for the remote tune until the manual and PI is installed.

Haaha believe me that was on the cards when I was weighing up options to get the car out of streamline in Sydney. Unfortunately Duck is in the middle of setting up a workshop and busy getting married. I could have waited a few weeks until he got that all out of the way. But decided it would be a lot more fun working on this with Vince (aka Yoda the great)

ST build continued

Test fit day is finally here lol.

Vince rocked over and we spent the first two hours trying to remove a manifold stud that would just not budge. A quick trip to Bunnings to get some extra tools and 30 mins later we had the sucker out grrr (pic 1)

Test fitted the manifold and turbo(s). Both just fit with a few mm to spare, although the 6466 was the better fitment.

One problem, the bonnet wont close. Also the exhaust flange is tight up against the wheel wall. On the upside, space for the down pipe looks ok. Will need to get a bottom section fabricated up and the exhaust manifold heat coated next.

Have made more progress in one afternoon then we did in 8 weeks at Streamline

Pics below

Pic 1 - Bastard pinta manifold stud
Pics 2 & 3 - Exhaust manifold
Pics 4 & 5 - Garrett 3884
Pic 6 to 8 - Precision 6466
Pic 9 - The man himself (Vince) checking out the set up

Impressive! But you need a bigger turbo.

I bought it for you already and it's on its way to you.

Nice one guys, interesting that the e90 and e92 are different enough to cause those couple of fitment issues...

I'm sure you'll sort it soon enough though

And yep bonnet scoop sounds like the go Socks, just rip your letterbox off its post and bolt it to the bonnet

Jesus christ its tight!!!
How do you think you will go protecting the paint from the heat of the exhaust housing being so close?
Also with the garret having the wastegate straight of the housing, have you thought of what you would do if you go with the precision instead?

Yeah zero clearance between the bodywork and T4 flange. We had to rock the engine to get the turbo to fit. Other off the shelf St kits have the flange at a different angle for the flange so there's plenty of clearance without affecting the turbo placement, effectively clocking the exhaust housing so the flange isn't in the way. If you look closely to ducks pictures he's hammered out that area to gain clearance. We will have a look at potentially shifting the engine slightly on its mounts to see if we can get some clearance otherwise

I think I put a washer on top of the engine mount actually on that side?.

I did hammer that section, but from memory that was for a different reason.
I don't overly envy you at this point phil, bmw's are stupid. haha.

The other bmw I did we had to cut the bonnet webbing to suit.

This mani was originally designed for E82 coupe I had, and suprisingly the bonnet sits slightly higher than e9x. Thanks bmw.

The carbon bonnet I had didn't have the ribbing in that spot so my bonnet cleared. There was still a small mark from the engine moving on the bonnet as can be seen from the black paint missing on top of comp cover.

Wedding was yesterday, so after my week away this coming week, I'll be all systems go again!

I'd love to assist if you weren't so far away! I'm very impressed, considering the extensive size of my toolbox and funky tools, torx etc I have at my disposal, I don't expect a home toolkit to be much fun fitting something like this up!

Yeh its all very tight but it fits, which is better then it not fitting at all lol... as Vince said, might have to shift the engine mounts slightly to give a couple of mms of space. Also looking at a Borg Werner internally gated turbo to avoid having to run external waste gates and screamer pipe. Hopefully we may get a little more room running the BW

ST build continued

Has been a while, so I thought I'd post a brief update

Basically we are waiting for parts to arrive, so we can make a down pipe and get on with the install.

We have ordered an N55 down pipe and some stainless elbows etc, that we will use to tack up a DP and send off to a fabricator to weld up. Also waiting on new turbo to arrive. Vince suggested a Borg Warner EFR 7670 with an internal waste gate to save space and so we don't need to stuff around with plumbing in the screamer pipe into the DP. Hopefully everything will arrive over the next week or so and we can get building

Pic for attention lol
