Thanks for all the quick replies.
Good points on the fact that this is the last e92 335i and if buying new i should get the f32. I think i have decided to go cpo. As far as an is goes, i like them a lot but they are above my price point. Honestly the only way i could even get a new car is with lease or select financing to lower the payments. Soo a used 335i or maybe 328i will be my best bet i think, a used 335is is about 40k. I am still going to test drive a manual 328i and 335i to see how they are. For now i think ill save a little and try to make a decision in the next couple months, my truck gets 14mpg and sucks to drive daily. |

Im surprised that only 1 person agreed with my advice to buy a car outright instead of taking on debt. A car is a HORRIBLE investment 99.9% of the time. Unfortunately it is far too common in our country to live outside our means. I digress...

Don't buy new. As other have stated, BMW's depreciate very rapidly. With a new body style coming out before you know it, the value of the current models is set to plummet even more.
You won't regret going CPO. You let the first guy take the huge loss for you, you're covered if things break, and you can look around and find exactly what you want for the price you're comfortable spending instead of paying top dollar for every little feature and dealership fee. There are several reasons these cars do not hold their value. One of them is the fact that they are so damn expensive to fix after the warranty is gone. Factor this into your decision making, and find a beauty with low miles and lots of warranty left. I also wouldn't plan on owning it for 5-7 years. I'm planning to be rid of mine when it hits 75k because I'm learey of the expenses that will likely start to crop up as it gets older. I'm not sure where you are located, but consider buying in Cali or Florida where there are tons of these cars around. Those markets are significantly more saturated, and prices are much better. A car that would go for 45k where I live (PA) could very well go for 35k in one of those places, where they are a dime a dozen compared to this area where I have only ever seen maybe 4 or 5 other 335's on the road. Myself and one of the other doctors at work have E9x 335's, and I think I've only ever seen 3 or 4 of them in person. Not kidding. They mark them up here, as I imagine they do in other places where they are less common. That said, if you want a 328xi sedan, this is the place to buy. They are everywhere you look, and this market is saturated with them. |

But good luck to you OP, go with what makes sense to you and more importantly what you'll be happy with in the long run. |

Leasing is a great way to go. You don't own it but all the maintenance is covered and the warranty is still there up to the day you turn it in to lease your next BMW.

For the E92's, the superior to manual (in performance terms) automatic is the 7 speed double-clutch in the 335is. Personally, I think 6 speed manual E92's, especially 335i, are going to be cult cars in the future, just like the E46 ZHP's. AFAIK, ZHP's didn't really fly off the shelf when new, but are highly desirable now. And if you look at used E46 ZHP's, the 6MT's sell for more, and sell much faster than the steptronics. E46 ZHP 6MT coupes are really tough to find. New car and used car markets are quite different. When BMW's are new, the new car buyers favor convenience and luxury. When BMW are several years old, performance and exclusivity determine value. "Luxury convenience" buyers only want new cars. Enthusiast buyers want performance and exclusivity. All that said, in terms of long term resale value I think a 335i manual, especially a coupe, is a safer bet than a 328i manual, particularly so a 328i manual sedan.

You can do both, but the actual decision in the end is a matter of personal preference, that is my point. Some may want to drop all the money on the car, while others don't.

I guess it's a personal preferrence. I could buy the car but would rather get a brand new one every 3 years.

my opinion as someone who bought a bmw early after graduating, either save the money or get a few year old bmw... few yr old bmw are a great idea.. if I could i would buy a 3 yrd 335d in a heartbeart, in your case a 2008-2010 335i coupe.

Get a gently used 335 coupe with 6MT. After driving MT my whole life, I fell for the paddle shifting gimmick on my previous 335. I knew within two weeks that I'd made a big mistake, a mistake I unfortunately had to live with for several years. And as far as coupes go, the E92 has a fair amount of room. If you don't have a specific need for four doors (e.g., kids) go for the better looking coupe.

Check the classifieds in the newspaper for one. Don't look on the internet, on autotrader.com, or craigslist, or ebay or any of that. Get a good old fashioned local paper and find one for sale by owner there. You want one owned by a little old man that only drove it to church. That demographic is way less likely to post their car for sale in a modern place, lol

How many little old men actually buy these cars and only drive them to church? Seriously! The first place I would start is autotrader, craigslist and ebay. |

Probably none, haha. But if one does (and he ever decided to sell it) that's totally the one you want to buy!

Well I agree with that but you won't find it. Starting college, my wife did find a 91 Taurus with 25K miles on it that she bought from a little old lady for $500 because her husband died. It was a family connection and was never advertised though. We actually still have that car as a backup and it has 275K miles on it and has never needed a major repair. Really a fantastically reliable car.
