Ontario Speed Cameras
As you are all aware Speed Cameras are in full effect, not only in Toronto but in surrounding areas.
Just wanted to let you guys know a bit about the system they are using. City is essentially leasing these units from a company called Redflex. They are responsible for maintenance and calibration of units, not the city. They are "fully committed to the goals of Vision Zero, to dramatically reduce and ultimately eliminate fatal crashes completely. We are just as committed to improving traffic safety in the communities we serve." In other words they manufacture all kinds of goods designed to take your cash. Check out their website. The product they use in Ontario is called Deployable 250 A portable speed detection system that can be deployed in less than two hours and utilizes two independent, industry-leading radars to provide higher incident capture and enforcement. This is the grey box you see on the side of the road. Key Capabilities:
I wasn't sure if the cameras captured the vehicles from the front or rear, but it seems that they are capable of capturing in both directions. In addition to the mentioned features above: "Deployable 250 utilizes the same photo enforcement technology found in our mobile, tripod and trailer systems – all housed in a small footprint unit for longer deployments in areas that do not have as much room for a vehicle or trailer across lanes of traffic. This portable speed enforcement unit utilizes industry-leading radar detection and the most sensitive high-resolution cameras to deliver exceptional low-light performance for day and night photography. A low power, high intensity LED flash provides targeted illumination of the object, without the stray light that often results with Xenon units. The deployable 250 solution utilizes dual radar technology (two independent radars) to provide higher incident capture and enforcement rates. Each radar beam of the dual radar system individually measures the speed of a vehicle and both readings must agree within a pre-determined tolerance." Tolerance range is not specified, so unless you are willing to test it out yourself there is no way of knowing when the camera will capture your speed. More details in terms of fines and where cameras are located can be found on google. Drive safe. Last edited by Wolf 335; 11-03-2020 at 10:54 PM.. |
