Red screen / SOS error / No audio
Help! I was driving the other day, and all of a sudden, my NAV screen went red and I lost all audio. Then about 2 minutes later, the screen went black. I have restarted the car several times and it is still black with no audio, and I have the SOS warning error on my dash console. It this a fuse? Is it a cable? Is it something much more expensive? I have pulled apart the center console and removed the radio and climate controls to check the wires, and nothing seems out of order. Do I need to remove the screen? Is this a common issue?
Any and all feedback is welcome. 2011 328i xdrive / e90 LCI |

If you have a good voltage to the NAV the most likely thing is the Nav.
How's your battery? The IBS system in this car can cause all kinds of odd problems if the battery is low. electical e90 pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU Anything in the Most Loop can cause an SOS error . Such as Sat Module , Telecomunications module, Head Unit and Logic 7 amplifier. I would start with the Head Unit since it is essentially the server for the Most Bus. Check for the correct voltage to the Head Unit. Also there is a fuse at both the back of the unit and the Cabin Fuse Board behind the glove box. georges links https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...9&d=1539905743 |

ctuna,
The Bentley manual in that link is up to 2010. I have a 2011, and the wiring is different on the back of the head unit. Any chance you have the link for the e90 2011? Marcus |

You can try the tis
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ I wouldn't think they would change anything but I could be wrong. I don't think it is different even on the F30's Technic uses the same harnesses he always did I believe. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...9c6jxCse4lPbHN There is and additional channel on the new Hi Fi system but I think that is it. |

Ok, isolated the issue to the head unit. I ordered one off of eBay. I made sure the model was identical. I have installed it and the screen came alive. Now, I don't have functioning SiriusXM or Nav/GPS. Do these need to be coded to the vehicle?

Yes it has to be coded . ( to tell it what options you have)
Look in the idrive subforum and coding subforum for details. there are enabling codes for Nav and Sirius has a subscription after you get it enabled. |

I actually took the car to the local BMW and asked them to code it. They had it for 4+ hours and gave it back to me saying it cannot be coded to my car. Is this a thing? They said it is locked to the vin it came out of.

There idiots
There idiots
The Vin's in every module can be coded the with proper software. If something is not on the BMW list of boxed procedures they won't do it and have no idea of how to do it (The BMW Engineering software that all the coders use can do this.) (and it would take no longer than an hour if there is no further problem) and if they could they would charge you a fortune to do it. The car has a copy of the default factory settings in the Cas and Frm modules. Any coder can use the codes to program that hardware to your car.(might need a ICOM cable since its and after 3/07 build) Or you could go to the coding subforum and learn to do it yourself. There should be a lot of coders in the LA area that can do this for you if you are not Technical or maybe someone could remote code it for you. You might want to give Bimmertech a call if you want a known entity to do it. Also there are idrive and coding subforums here that can help you. Never take your car to a dealer if its not a warranty issue. Find an Indy if you can't do it yourself. Lots of people have done idrive installs, replacements and upgrades here. Its not done by using what the dealership has software wise. Last edited by ctuna; 08-27-2019 at 09:18 PM.. |
