One headlight washer not spraying.
My sons friends E92’s headlight washers aren’t working as they should. They both extend but only one sprays water then neither of them retract fully. Then if we push one back in then the other the first one comes back out slightly. We have pulled the jet off the non spraying one and blown through it, no blockage.
I would have thought if there was a blockage on the pump filter we’d get nothing but the working one is fine. What do you think? Blockage in the feed pipe to the bad one? But it is wet around the connection between the jet and the extender. |

Hey mate,
Was it ever working? In my case I used different piping from 6 series than for my car. There is return valve I had to take apart and remove. I had same behaviour failing (nct) or Mot If it was working I would check the motor. From memory there is a small filter there which may be clogged. Hope it helps. Regards, Alex |

Should have said, he's only just bought the car so not sure how long it's not been working. We've rulled out the pump filter because the working one is working just fine, from memory there's only one pump and filter for both lights.

I would remove the headlight washer that doesn’t work & then have someone press & hold the washer stork. If water squirts out of the hose that would suggest that the fault is with the washer unit, if not then a blocked of broken hose.

You don't mention which one is not working properly.
Could be as simple as the washer jet needs replacing but I recon could be the pump itself. The reason being is that if the one jet that pops out but doesn't spray is the one on the passenger side (furthest from the actual pump) then the pump in the bottle isn't strong enough to force water out of that jet and why the one closer is working.

Ah yes maybe. It is the n/s one that isn’t working. After Christmas I’ll meet up with him and have a proper look. When we pulled the jet off the shaft and blew through it it seemed very clear, no resistance at all really so I’d say the jet is ok.

Hi, I had this problem. I had been using cheap washer fluid which froze in the winter and damaged the valves in the washers, they would sort of squirt but then not retract because they where now full of dirt from driving with them sticking up.
Replaced them both ( £15 from Ebay ) and now use Halfords Berry washer fluid that is good down to -10C, they've been fine for over a year now. |

I had the problem that they would come out but not spray, I changed the headlight washer housing & still didnt work correctly, I then took the water tank out of the car & it was covered in slime & the two small filters was also covered in slime, Cleaned the filters & tank, Now they spray really good & powerful.
