Wheels help...

Evening all!

I just bought some 19" 313's and am going to pick them up on Tuesday. I'll be inspecting them first and then paying. This leads to my question...

What am i looking for when I look at them? They've been refurbed and one has been welded with the other 3 being described as perfect. What am I looking for aside from them being round and undamaged? Please forgive my ignorance here.

I currently have MV3's with run flats on them. Should I get run flats on the 313's or get 'normal tyres'.

Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm not proficient in cars, so learning as I go.

Thanks very much.

313’s are a lovely looking rim and one of the first sets I bought for mine when I purchased the car.

If they’re genuine look for the BMW stamp/markings to confirm.
I’d check the welded one to ensure the weld looks good.
Also check the finish for any blemishes like bubbles etc or pitting in the finish.

Check they’re staggered so 2 should be slightly narrower than the other 2.

As for tyres I’d run ‘normal’ tyres as opposed to run flats as you’ll find the 313’s are quite susceptible to cracking.

Thanks so much RajB & rasa bmw I really appreciate the help.

Which tyres should I get do you reckon? Michelin Pilot Sport?

Are these the correct sizes for the 313? 225/35/19 and 255/30/19

Is there anything else I need to consider fitting a larger wheel?

Thanks so much for the help, I'm sorry for all the questions.

This wheel (313) is very well known for craking, and this is something you need to keep in mind.
Welded wheel can be ok for the remainder of your ownership or it can crack on the first bump. Welding process makes the original crack indestructible, however it weakens the material around the weld.

Main thing to look for when getting used wheels are:
- hairline cracks that may not even leak air
- wheel straightness that can only be seen while the wheel is rotating

Either you take the wheels to a shop and ask to spin them to check for bends, or if you have rear wheel drive, jack up the rear end, mount the wheels and put the car in drive. Observe the wheel edge from outside and then from inside. If there are any wobbles then they may need to be straightened. Slight bends can balance out and you wont feel any vibrations, whereas others can cause vibrations. A good shop can tell you this once they see the wheel spin on their machine.
