I was at Schomps a few weeks back and overheard a guy chatting with the parts guy about a new engine. Dinan modified. The parts guy said after the engine, installation and various belts, hoses, etc, it was well over $35K. That 25K is just for the engine, not putting it in.
Sorry about your car Andre. Actucally, total the M3, buy a 1M, modify it. It will be faster than your M3, handle like your M3 and possibly some cash back in your pocket.

Damn Sid that sucks man. Thats a terrible deal. At least no body damage I guess??? I mean thats something good. But damn, yea, if they are only gonna cover a certain cost try to get that Dinan engine in there. That would be SWEET.

So check this out.... I just talked with the guys at Dinan and they said that what usually happens in cases like this is the insurance gives me or the dealership the money for a new engine and I can just have the dealer order a Dinan Stroker engine for 1k less then a regular S65! As long as the dealer sends back the old engine which he said the insurance company usually lets them do for free or next to nothing. It is the same exact engine as far as installation goes. The Dinan engine is exactly the same except it is just bored and stroked... oh, and it puts out an extra 80hp/85trq! Those numbers are just for the engine alone.
It looks like this might actually work as long as they dont total my car :-)!

I'm sure I'm going to suck pretty hard. I've only been to the drag strip once years ago and I either bogged bad at the start or got way too excited like Tommy Callahan and ended up burning out

Hey guys, things are looking like my car is actually going to be totalled... I dont know for sure yet but the bill is already at 40k and that is without taking it apart. If it reaches 45k then they will probably just total it. The good news is that if they do then I am going to do European Delivery to try and keep my payment down as well as to get an almost free trip out of it. If they dont total it, then I am going to throw that Dinan engine in it.
So, now that I might have a chance to do it all over again, I am thinking if there is anything I would change. Part of me is considering the DCT option but part of me loves the 6mt and feels like I would get tired of the DCT. What do you guys think?

Get DCT, I have that on my new S4 and I love it. I do love MT but I wanted to try this and it's so damn cool and fast.
On another note, you talk to your insurance company on how much your premium is going to go up with this type of claim? |
