Shoot...flyer333...you are right. Canadian Thanksgiving is on October 8th this year (yes...we Canadians celebrate turkey day a month earlier)...so October 6th would be on the same weekend. I think a lot of Canadians might be going away to family that weekend...so probably not best to line up a meet then.

I think we're going to have to set this thing up on October 13th.

Anyone have suggestions on where to meet in Mount Vernon? I see that there are two Home Depots there....are the parking lots generally free on a Saturday morning?

I will post a new thread in both regional forums, and an event on the E90post calendar. Probably by the end of this weekend.

I am waiting for suggestions for places to meet up near Mount Vernon (or whatever's most convenient for Deception Pass). Any parking lot would do...but something conveniently located near fast food would be nice too.

Likely we Canadians will leave sometime in the morning. Earliest we will reach meetup point is probably around noon. Might even be nice to have lunch together at a burger place?

The Burlington area is probably a good choice. There is the Cascade Mall and the Prime Outlet Mall, both about 1 mile from the highway out to Deception Pass. There is a Red Robin near the Cascade Mall too.

There is also a Taco Del Mar in the area, as well as the usual selection of fast food (Quizno's, Subway, McDonald's, etc.)

Another option would to meet up in Anacortes and have lunch at Randy's Pier 61. Good seafood, especially the fried scallops. Randy's is approximately 11 miles from Deception Pass. http://www.pier61.com/index.html

Yet another option to think about: Meet up in Burlington at the mall/whatever, have lunch, check out cars and then take Chuckanut Drive to Bellingham. It is 25 miles on Chuckanut Drive from Burlington to Bellingham. At the end, the Canadians can peel off and head home and the rest of us can head south for home.

That's embarrassing... My bad.

So October 13th is sounding like the date?

Pier 61 would be a good choice... Anything but dragging our Northern Buddies into a freaking Strip Mall or Fast food place. Though the Outlet Mall sounds like a good place to meet... I dunno where it is but a bunch of Bimmers out in the corner somewhere should be conspicuous enough.

I'm looking forward to this get together.

Still early enough in the Season, the American Consumer Sheeple won't be warming up for the Christmas Frenzy yet, so we should be OK.

Although if someone knows of another place out there big and visible, it might be a good idea.

Is there a Park N Ride out there anywhere?

It might, but this particular Outlet mall has been completely hammered by the new one that opened up at the Tulalip a few years ago. The Tulalip one is closer to Seattle and has better shops, so not many drive past it to the one in Burlington anymore. It isn't even listed on the "Prime Outlets" website anymore as an official location (record has been deleted.) So it may even be an EMPTY parking lot!

As for food, I'll never pass up a chance to go to Pier 61. Heck, that might even motivate the wife to find babysitting and come along!

The WSDOT website lists one at 100 Cascade Mall Way, but the aerial photo doesn't look promising. If you type in that address into Mapquest then select the "aerial image" button, you can see all the parking lot space around there. The Outlet mall has a bit, but the Cascade Mall right next door has a huge parking lot. Actually, the whole section of Burlington looks like a giant parking lot from the aerial!

OK looks like we have several people interested in going to Randy's @ Pier 61 for lunch. Let's do that then. That also selects our route for us because it is more towards the Deception Pass rather than going up to Bellingham...although I suppose we could backtrack.

As for meeting place...Prime Outlet mall sounds good as any. It is visible from the highway so people who are not familiar with the area will see the sign and turn off. And the parking lot is small-ish enough that people driving in will able to immediately spot where all the E90posters are.

Assuming this meets the approval of most people...I will post up an official thread and event on the calendar in the next day or so. Everyone should feel free to turn around at any point of the trip. I imagine some people might even want to head back home after lunch due to significant others, etc.

There's probably not enough parking room on the bridge @ Deception Pass for us to stop there as a group. I suppose people can stop individually if they want to take pictures...but we should meetup as a group in the Park. I think the west beach will look nice as a photo area. I'm open to suggestions if they think another parking lot within the park is better.

Afterwards, I found a place online that apparently has go-karting place at a drive-in movie theatre. It's not too far away from the park. They look like the rather tame go karts...not the full on shifter karts. But nonetheless it might be a fun and competitive activity to end the day with...if people are interested, I'm totally game.

Proposed Route:
Checkpoint 0: Your home
Checkpoint 1: Prime Outlet, Burlington, WA
Checkpoint 2: Randy's Pier 61, Anacortes, WA (***LUNCH***)

Checkpoint 4: Brattland Go-Karts, Oak Harbour, WA

Spacedogg,
I wasn't sure if I should put this is the official thread, but we will probably need to give Randy's a heads up that we will be descending on them in force.

So, for every one else, a decent head count with some lead time is a must!
