Thanks Vespa for providing the guide to everyone here.

Just sharing my experience but for those that said to use firefox to connect to the FTP it definitely helped me out.

I was using the ENET cable method with IE and Chrome but none of the browsers would connect to the car.

However, once I changed to Firefox and followed Vespa's directions everything worked out flawlessly

Thanks again!

Tried so much, but can't get this to work on Windows XP..

Edit: With Windows 10 I can make a connection to ftp://169.254.199.99 but when entered:

username: root
pass: "Hm83stN)" or "cic0803"
I always get pass not correct..

I'm stuck !

Be sure to include the ")" in the password. And try no password if that doesn't work.

Download the mega link at the top of the post here. NBT users should follow that post but CIC users can ignore everything there, just get the Generator.rar from it and move on. Don't read any instructions in the RAR or anywhere else, you don't need to install anything, edit .bat files, figure out year codes, or have Ediabas installed, just extract the one file titled: "fsc.exe" from that rar and place it in whatever directory you have your "a.hex" file in. Super simple.

Then from the C:\> prompt in that directory just type something like:
fsc a.hex 0x2D 0xFF > code.txt
Which will create a file called code.txt containing your FSC code. If the file ends up blank or the code doesn't work, make sure your a.hex file is 319 bytes (right-click -> Properties) and make sure your 1b file shows your VIN like this example. If you still get blank files see post #122.

For other regions/systems, type the following:

Premium Maps:
Europe: "fsc a.hex 0x28 0xFF > code.txt"
North America: "fsc a.hex 0x2D 0xFF > code.txt"
South America: "fsc a.hex 0x2F 0xFF > code.txt"

ISRAEL: "fsc a.hex 0xB1 0xFF > code.txt"

Alternately, you can skip the 1b file stuff and just buy FSC codes here.

Note: Script-hacked CIC's will not accept a FSC code directly, contact your scripter.

Just follow the instructions that you quoted. Specifically:

Then from the C:\> prompt in that directory just type something like:

You might want to change your WIRED connection, not your wireless. Unless I'm missing something here.

Run fsc manually and see what happens.. ie not through FSC.exe. Open a command prompt and make sure you're in the proper dir.

PM me a link to the unedited 1b you got from the car. I'll see what I can do.

:EDIT: That Hex file is bad, send me your 1b file and I'll convert and PM you the FSC.

Ok, so my generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController file doesn't have my VIN or 01 01 00 1B hex anywhere. It's 8k, got it just fine from the car. I used Chrome on OSX if that matters. I do see bmwgroup all over the file though.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Try a different browser, or try method 4a. See other examples of similar trouble on pages 2 and 8.

I think it was chrome. I used FileZilla and found the correct bytes. Thanks!

Awesome!! I made my own ENET cable and managed to generate the CIC FSC code based on information on this forum. I have a S606 Navigation System Business (MOTION). Can someone please confirm that the code output, "MAP FSC for ???: WGX7OZWX766DUACOAD7Q" is good to go and that it will work for BMW ROAD MAP AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND MOTION 2015 (or any year?). Thank you again.

Thanks for posting this thread, however I am having some problems getting this to work on my car.

I own a Z4 E89 23i which was manufactured in 2009. It came factory fitted with the CIC navigation (2009 PREMIUM maps). The original owner later upgraded to the "2012 PREMIUM" maps by the dealer. I believe that this owner also required to get the iDrive firmware upgraded at the same time.

The maps are currently reporting "Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2012".

A few months ago, before reading this thread, I bought a "BMW INPA EDIABAS K+DCAN D-CAN OBD2 OBDII USB Interface Diagnostic Tool Cable" cable from eBay but couldn't manage to connect to my car, so I gave up.

Last week, after reading this post, I bought a "OBD2 Ethernet" cable.

I then did the following:
  1. Changed the properties of the wired network connection on my Windows 7 laptop to use an IP 169.254.199.98, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, a gateway of 169.254.199.99 and blank DNS settings.
  2. Plugged the ethernet cable into the OBD2 port and into my laptop
  3. Powered on the car
  4. The ethernet port lights up, but the network adapter in Windows was displaying a message which I think was "Limited connectivity".
  5. I attempted to load ftp://169.254.199.99 in my browser but it could not locate that IP.
  6. I loaded command prompt and attempted to ping that IP but found that I could not locate that IP.
  7. I then googled and found another range of IP addresses to try, but I had no success with those either.
  8. I tried connecting with automatic IP assignment running and ran Wireshark to see if I could spot any IP addresses responding, but could not see anything.

I downloaded tftp32 but I am not quite clear on how to use it properly or 'start' it.

Before I go any further, I'd like to understand the following:
  • Is my car's OBD2 port actually wired for Ethernet? I read a post by shawnsheridan which suggested that most Exx cars do not have their OBD2 port wired for ethernet access
  • What's the best approach to get the FSC 1B from my car? I'd prefer not to buy any further kit if I can avoid it. If I can use one of the two cables that I already have + software, that would be preferable.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you're getting a link light on your ethernet port, then your car is definitely wired for it. I had a hell of a time getting my personal laptop to connect, I had to actually use my work laptop, lol.

Try a different machine if you can, I know not the best answer but it worked for me.
