I lucked into my 1st BMW
Hello everyone. I recently had a run of pretty bad luck that ended up with me as a very excited 1st time BMW owner. I fell sick at work one afternoon, and had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance. My wife took a cab to my office to pick up our only working vehicle. Half way home the car blew a cylinder and lost compression.....
Well it just happened that my mothers 70 yr. old best friend was in the process of buying a brand new 4 series convertible, and she just happened to be trading in her 06 325i with 140k on it. She agreed to sell it to me for the dealers "low ball" trade offer. I am now the proud owner of my 2006 325i with the premium package on it. It is an automatic, w/o navigation. It was maintained at the dealer for its entire life. She didn't keep it really clean, but it was maintained properly. I got this blessing for $2300

I agree. This car needs a couple of minor things, but they are cosmetic. Mechanically she seems to be A1

Post some pics please!! Is it a 1 owner vehicle? If valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and rear main seal isn't leaking I'd say $2300 is a good buy. Also I don't think $2300 was a low ball offer for a 325i with 140k on it. Dealer will either send it to auction or retail it at $5,000.

That's a hard to beat price. Bought my 2006 330i about 2 years ago for 12.5k from a dealer in Miami. It's been the first car that I financed myself and I'd never bought from an actual dealership before so it was a pretty bad deal for me really but you live and you learn right?
Also learned that trade in values are a joke. I traded in a civic to that same dealer for 1k value which I of course have since learned I could have gotten at least 3k for at the time.. Btw, I believe we have the same paint job. It's the best stock paint style I've come across yet imo. |

Welcome!
Change the ATF filter and fluid. Mechatronic sleeve (or seals if GM) is a leak source. Inspect and change the steering and differential fluids. Dealer should have changed the brake fluid every 2 years, just make sure it is not black coffee. |

Off lease 2015 F30s can be had around 20k. Like you said, you will do better next time. But some hated the steering in F30s.
Next time search for Car Pro USA certified dealer and see what one can do for you: https://www.carprousa.com/certified-dealers I heard Japanese used cars cost more than German premium brands. Quote:

Ty very much for the tip. I've been reading up and putting together a "to do" list. Then I need to prioritize that list because I don't have endless cash. Would you suggest changing the plugs as well? And would you do the ATF work or plugs first?

Those should be high up on your list if they are an unknown age, as serpentine belt failure can cost you the motor if the belt material gets sucked through the front seal. a contitech kit is like $80 for the belt, tensioner and the aluminum bolts. it shouldn't take anyone with any experience spinning a wrench more than an hour to do the job. |
