How about this for a drag race
Despite the horrible weather, top marks to Bruntinthorpe and CA Automotive for providing entertainment for a gloomy day. The crowd was excellent and the show was great too.
Many events did not go ahead due to the trecharous conditions (I was supposed to put the D to more tests), but the are always a good bunch of loonies who will go all out, come rain, come shine. Some usual suspects. CA's bionic bannana and Giv's E39. My diesel and Birds brought along their tuned 335i. Roy being a star he always is, offered free 160MPH rides to kids. If a supercharged E46 M3 is to disintegrate, it will not have survived what Roy did to his bionic bannana today. This car is a testament how reliable supercharging has become compared to the days when I was looking into aftermarket forced induction for my 330ci. The plan was to race a Lightning jet head to head down a 2 mile runway. The pilot gave a demo of what a 40 year old Lightning jet could do. I've never been that close to a fighter jet with both afterburners lit. That noise!! Formula One is nothing compared to this! Roy contemplated hard bearing in mind what his M3 would turn into if he failed to out accelerate the Lightning ........ a gush of jet blast? ......... YEAH RIGHT! ........ HELL NO So a softer option was chosen, a Hunter single engined jet. The grid. The flag dropped ...... Whooooooaaaaaaa! ........ The bionic bannana topped out at 185MPH ....... in the wet! :rocks: What a sight! What a noise! Truely memorable |

We didn't run, although it would have been nice to compare. Having the car wagging it's tail at 100MPH is not my idea of a safe run, let alone at 160MPH!

Bloody hell that's AMAZING. I didn't know that any Lightnings were still running let alone belonging to people nuts enough to bring them to a car drag !
Someone HAS to have had video, tell me please SJ |

looked like an ABSOLUTE ACE DAY :rocks:
love the pic of the plane with the m3 small in the distance :rocks: shame you didnt get to have aplay tho, but for sure, it wouldnt have been clever in this weather. There was a big crash there a few weeks ago when a 400bhp focus mk1 rolled end over end

Here are some vids taken by a friend of mine, Paul.
The banana doing a donut - 12secs 3.1mb Donut 1 Another Donut - 9secs 2.4mb Donut 2 The lightening jet. It really doesn't seem to be that loud in the vid but believe me it was really painful. I would have loved to have hands over my ears but wanted to video it for you lot - 24secs 6.1mb Lightening jet The first race. It started before we even had time to get ready so Giv managed to only get them as they cruised back , worth listening to for his comment at the end (obviously not impressed) - 28secs 7mb Cruising back The second race - much better but by now the rain is seriously pissing down and the lens is getting a good soaking despite Givs best attempts it just can't cope with some of the focusing required, remember that the car is still accelerating hard passed us at 160mph. Alex used a tripod and his camera may have escaped the rain a little better so possibly improved footage on that - 30 secs 7.2mb Second Race The banana accelerating passed us after the second race - 8secs 2mb Banana accelerating |

Nice pics and vids.
What sort of distance were you figuring the race over? With 180+mph on tap the M3 should outrun any jet on the ground given enough distance as they would be airbourne at about 150-160mph, and the CAA goes all grumpy whenever someone wants to get a classic jet in the air again so he probably tops out at 130-140. From the video it sounds as if the hunter had to knock it off well before the point used for filming.

Good photos Nick. I've spoken to Paul, who reckons it was a mad day. He said you almost got blown off your feet from the jet wash at one point.
Such a shame the weather was so poor.
