D1S flickering

Hi, I bought a new pair of D1S lights for my LCI E90 and when I tried to replace the passenger side the new D1S light just flickered and then turned off. It kept on flickering every 10 second or so then turned off - putting in my old D1S light still worked without any flickering.

I'm wondering, did I receive faulty D1S lights to begin with or is this caused by a bad ballast?

Can a mod move this post please? I posted this in "Electronics" as I thought the subforum you mentioned was only for modifications and retrofits which this isn't.
