Odd idle
My idle is fine when I start the car and 95% of the time. I noticed yesterday and today that while I was waiting in traffic this started happening. Car is a 2006 325xi. I have attached a video of the idle. Anyone ever have this happen to them? Any ideas or suggestions is appreciated! Thanks..

Ive not diagnosed it on an E9X model but historically it was due to a vac leak but given that its not consistent its probably the DME responding to a bad signal from something like the MAF. Youll probably have a code.

Happened to me recently and turned out to be a bad coil.

It can be soo many things from lambda sensor to vacuum to ignition to fuel.. get codes. Anecdotal stories rarely solve technical problems..

Doubt its your ECU fan causing it.
Clear the codes and run again just in case. If that alt code comes back check the voltage while running. It could be an issue with the alt or the sensor for the charging system. IIRC these are linked now and the car outputs varying voltages based on the needs of the battery so its not universally 14v anymore. |

Reset it, drive it, reread it. Just to be sure.
Sounds like something is amiss with the charging system, generator/voltage regulator might be off. Odds are that is causing the battery charging code as well. |
