This thread has been an interesting and entertaining read!

Makes me realize I’m fortunate in many ways and equally unfortunate in others.

Cheers to everyone making their way through life and realizing the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence!

So more to add to my year of woe. Early last week I start to get an allergic reaction to something. Still don't know what that thing is. Started off as lots of itching of my skin on certain parts of my body. It progresses to full on rash/hives on my thigh, lower back, upper shoulders, neck, and eventually makes it up to my face. I look like I'm going into puberty again in overdrive. Broke down and went into urgent care on Saturday and I'm under a course of prednisone. So far it seems to be resolving the issue after my attempts with Benadryl did nothing.

To top it all off, I get a letter from my state's department of labor unemployment office. Some a$$hole filed a fraudulent claim. Had all of my sensitive information SSN, DOB, address, everything. Fortunately, my state flagged the claim and requested additional proof of ID that the ass couldn't provide. So no payments were made. Spent 30 minutes on the phone this morning talking to the fraud division. For now, I'm not filing to release my SSN for any new applications of unemployment benefits. Did some researching online and there were some news articles that pinned the release of PII from the breaches at OPM and Equifax. This further increases my anger that these a$$holes that were grossly negligent did not see any lick of jail time nor were personally fined for their gross misconduct. In both those situations, the person in charge knew of the vulnerabilities in their systems and chose not to address them. The bigger issue with the OPM breach is of all the personnel files they had that got compromised. Files pertaining to security clearance applications that the Chinese government has. Yet the person in charge overseeing the IT operations wasn't thrown in jail. But of course the token contractor got the shaft as the scapegoat.

Did they rule out Shingles? Shingles can cause pain. Is the rash painful?

Probably just an allergic reaction to something, like you said.

Garage List

Expensive morning for me. My wife decided to back our 2 month old SUV into the garage before it was all the way up... bending the garage door and knocking it off its rails while causing some severe scratching to the car.

Just had the garage door repaired along with a fresh set of rollers for $1,300. As for the SUV, hoping it's something that can simply be buffed out and repainted as opposed to replacing the entire part.... but let's see.

^^^^Ouch. I guess my wife can be forgiven for tweaking her right side mirror on the garage frame.

So the part itself is $812 not including labor. Including garage door repair, my wife managed to do ~$2,500 worth of damage just like that... Happy Friday?

Why does it matter to you? Her money, she can piss away as she pleases… that’s why she works and can afford it

We don't separate our finances.

It's not the end of the world though. She's ok and $2,500 might sting a little but it could have been much worse. I shudder to think if she backed into the garage door while it was fully closed and completely destroyed the door and the back of the car

Also gotta look at the positives. This makes my case to get a 3rd car even stronger . She can't drive a manual, and I'm not sure I want her to learn on the m3 anyway given her... haphazard style....

I swear to fscking god that I am cursed! Remember that Thanksgiving trip that I had to cancel last minute due to COVID? My suitcase is in the almost mighty Freightliner as I type this, and I was supposed to be leaving for that same trip about 30 minutes ago. Received a phone call from security at work at 2 AM on my emergency cell, reporting a major problem. I mean cancel your holiday plans and then some problem. Can't get anyone else on the phone, and can't leave for the road trip because I might be working 24/7 for a week or more to fix this. FML, FML, FML! I seriously think that I'm going to resign today after 37 years and call it a career.....

That really sucks. Hopefully you find a magic solution in a few minutes. Fingers crossed.

Got typhoid fever in Turkey. Finished the course for antibiotics and was feeling good(ish), diarrhea never stopped but calmed down considerably. Saturday it hit me again and I started another course of antibiotics yesterday. I'm so freaking tired.

Frack, you too???? Somehow the UPS that protects the entire Police server array had the circuit switch on each output was manually tripped (best I can see) The generator kicked in after about 2 minutes, but the A/C got hammered and about 8 hours later a sergeant heard fans, opened a door, and it was 110.

I was out running at the time I got the first call, and I'm not even on call. Hustle back, spend couple hours remotely while wife is tapping foot because I'm supposed to be in shower to go to party.

Monday I come in, and one server we THOUGHT restarted, didn't. The internal array wasn't found. I spent all day Monday trying to restore. Finally removed the drives and quite literally "breathed life" into the connectors. Now the array showed up as foreign. Imported the foreign array, but now it's array 4, not 0, so BIOS doesn't see it to boot the server.

It's only the evidence storage server, no big deal.

I get on a boat in San Diego on Saturday, . . . for a week on the Mexican Riviera. I missed this cruise with in-laws last year because my father was ill, and lost all of the money. I'm going this year.

Retirement, gents, retirement. It's your reward for decades of dedicated service. Take advantage. There hasn't been a single moment since I retired that I regretted doing so.

If you can comfortably retire now? When I got that phone call I probably just would have been like, you know what? I'm done. Have fun figuring it out.

As tempting as it sounds, after 20 years I KNOW these people, and don’t want to drop that in someone else’s lap like that

I want them to KNOW I’m leaving, and give them the opportunity to beg and grovel
