Pal is the standard format in the UK. Country code 2, but most can be bought or adjusted to be code free and will display either PAL or NTSC. Your TV may already handle NTSC (it is just a different density of lines fed more frequently).

NTSC is mainly American but also used in Japan and other countries.

A quick search of Google or Wiki would have told you that.

But as you are incapable of this simple task, here I've done it for you :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

Might be too much text for you ...

Dave, are you sure you don't want to pop-round and read it for him then?

Carloss, I'm just happy that you have this nice little corner of the internet to play in.

Pal has a higher resolution than NTSC, thats why american programmes broadcast on british TV often have a grainy appearance.

Most DVD players will play PAL and NTSC, but there is a separate 'region code' restruction which can be a problem.

If you rip any dvd to your computer with this program:

http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

Then burn it back to DVD ...

It automatically becomes region free and will work on any player.

If you understand any of this nod your head slowly

But havn't we been hearing that the government want to get rid of the railways less technical engineers

Maybe they could release a dvd based re-training program....PAL based of course as they don't understand the importance of 'correct lines'
