**Need Help** - Frustrating FRM Coding Issues

2007 335i Pre-LCI Sedan w/ Adaptive Xenons recently converted to LCI adaptive xenon headlights, LCI tail lights and went from FRM1 to FRM3.

Had someone remotely attempt to code in the new FRM3 and it's a complete cluster.

The headlights/AE's and tail lights are always on no matter what regardless of where the headlight switch is turned to. No right turn signal and the left turn signal turns on but will not stop blinking unless I shut off the car. Hazards don't work. The green turn signal lights on the dash cluster randomly turned on and wouldn't turn off until I restated the car. Adaptive headlights are also not working. And the car keeps throwing random, random codes now (related or unrelated??). I switched back to the original FRM1 to see if it would go back to normal and it's the same issue prone story.

Prior to doing any swapping of FRM's or coding, everything worked fine-ish. The only issue was bulb out errors and the LED turn signals blinked too fast- as expected.

Needless to say this is extremely frustrating and my coder has given up (he spent 7-8 hours total over many nights trying to remotely coder). This has gone far beyond my level of expertise and would greatly appreciate any insights.
-----

Update as of 3/9 (still having unresolved issues)

Here are the notes from the coder:
1) FRM1 was replaced by FRM3
2) FRM3 was updated by WinKFP using comfort mode in order to write VIN.
3) Used NCS expert to write #0307 to VO in CAS and FRM.
4) Default coded FRM3, CAS and JBBF. Also did a SG_RESET on these as well.
5) Coded out all bulb checks, amber delete and set AEs as DRLs. Cleared all errors with INPA.
**After step 5, the blinkers sometimes flickered/strobed that could not be fixed**
6) Thinking the FRM3 may have been the issue, we switched back to the FRM1, but the blinkers were still strobing.
7) FRM1 was updated by WinKFP using comfort mode.
** This is where these new gremlins reared their head: no adaptive headlights, non functioning headlight switch, no hazard lights and turn signals stop working properly**
8) Converted back to FRM3
9) Used Tool32 to reset short circuit counters, noticed driver side taillight had a constant fault.
10) Drivers outer tail light LED were not working correctly. Replaced tail light, short circuit now resolved.
11) Replaced battery with AGM battery to rule out the typical "low battery" gremlins that are common on these cars.
12) Pulled many fuses in glove box to rule out any blown fuses. Found no issues.
13) Still no adaptive headlights, non functioning headlight switch, no hazard lights and turn signals stop working properly

Some questions:

1. Do you have correct FRM3 AHL? There are different versions.

2. Did you modify wiring or install the retrofit cable cable?

No wiring changes were made. The only hardware changes made were the swapped FRM, tail lights and headlights.

And and the FRM3 is Max Brose from an E90 335 LCI Xenon w/ Adaptive headlights.

I initially thought that something may have been wrong with the FRM3 (bad FRM, wrong model, etc), so I swapped back to the stock FRM1. And even after swapping back, were still unable to get any of the options on the turn signal stalk to work (including high beams), or the headlight switch.

Is the remote coder someone that is experienced?

Try doing SG_Codieren on those modules in #4 instead of just SG_Reset.

To my knowledge, FRM3 also needs different wiring. I am not sure how this was just plug and play, assuming your car came with stock adaptive headlamps too.

Thanks brother.

Yes, the car originally came with adaptive headlights. It does not sound like the new FRM requires any changes to wiring. In fact, the FRM3 worked completely fine once swapped right in and originally coded - aside from inconsistently strobing turn signals The strobing turn signals were the only reason we revisited the coding- and precisely when everything seemed to go downhill quickly.

And I'll direct the coding advice to my coder as that's a bit over my head.

If you have the cable, I could try doing it remotely. Let me know if that's an option. Hopefully I can help you fix this.

Coder said he did he did SG_CODIERN as well using Expert Mode on those modules listed.

And yes, that would be excellent. It's too bad you moved away!

Quick update: FRM3 Max Brose is installed and everything is coded back to defaults. The issues unfortunately still persist.

And for those inquiring, I originally swapped in the FRM3 to gain welcome lights and AE DRL's that are not available on FRM1. At this point I just want the car to function as it should, so I'll be swapping back in the original FRM and coding it back to defaults to see if that will make any difference. And this may be well beyond my scope of expertise, but is there any other module (ECU??) that could have stored some faulty coding that we aren't thinking about??

Mechanical gremlins can be dealt with. But these electrical/coding gremlins are an entirely different nightmare of an issue!

3) Used NCS expert to write #0307 to VO in CAS and FRM.

Maybe wrong? I would write a date where FRM3 was available from.

Still working through the issue, but it's been put on hold due for the past few weeks due to me having ankle surgery and some really nasty complications that have followed since :-(

The plan was to try swapping back to the stock FRM1 again to see if the issues will still follow now that I have a brand new battery and fully functioning left outer tail light.

1. I'm sure you need some pin changes for this retrofit.

2. I notice your coder actually "write" #0307 to VO? This needs clarification as you should NOT actually write the date change. You just need to simulate it with NCSExpert - in effecting tricking NCSExpert into allowing you NFRM coding options...

Also, once pins have been changed coding procedure should be:

1. Change vin (check in NCSexpert that correct vin is displayed!!! NOT old one from used FRM)
2. Check VO for $522A and $524A.
3. Add +MUEG to the VO -fa write in CAS and FRM.
4. Expertmode in ncs and code to default FRM, RSMC, LSMC and FZD.

I also remember for FRM3 Max Brose you don't need to play with date change....

You should use a production date where FRM3 was available.

3/07 is FRM2. Using something past 2009

Date change for frm3 isn't needed. It does it automatically...

I would shoot xxxjecxxx2 a message and see what he has to say. I know he pretty much wrote the DIY on coding in the sticky and he also did the same conversion as you on his previous vehicle
