Accelerator pedal no response

Hi all, so today I had a strange problem, I've had similar before and more noticeable when cold but this seemed to last much longer.

Basically I started the car up after work and the revs were jumping around a little which always tends to happen when the cars been stood for 8+ hours for reasons I can't figure out. I put the car into D and drove through the car park, all is fine up to now aside from a little bit of stuttering from the cold start rev jumping that seems to happen, I then stopped at a junction to let a car pass, after this I press the accelerator and nothing happens, I sit here for a good 10-15 seconds pressing it all the way to the floor and nothing happens, the revs are sitting at idle (stuttering still a little) it's as if the pedal isn't even connected to the car. Eventually it kicks back into life and I continue my journey, the car smooths out as it warms and no more problems happen.

The car is a 325d N57 engine (60 plate)
I have had EGR issues which I was hoping were sorted now as the engine light hasn't been on in months now.
There were no lights on the dash, nothing, it was as if I was just sitting at idle not pressing any pedals.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks.
