I appreciate that she's not going to mark up the interior, I respect that.

Tornado on the hunt from backseaters view, somewhere over nowhere. Final turn at 270kts before the two Mausers' got the last word. Quality is poor because of time before smartphones&co.

Unfortunately, this is what the P-51 looks like now. Pilot and passenger both killed.

Ah, damn. That sucks. They ever find out what happened? From the wreckage it appears to have nosed-in.

Another witness, who watched the plane from south of Kansas 59 in Atchison County, saw the plane swoop down low, 25 to 30 feet above the ground. “The plane pitched up to climb in a near vertical attitude and then the nose turned to the left and the airplane turned and pitched down in a nose low attitude,” the report said.
25 to 30 feet above the ground? What professional pilot would come in that low unless he was on final? I suspect the witness here was under-estimating the altitude. Still, you never know. There's a saying that was posted in our briefing room that said, "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots."

I'd love to know what the experts finally found out about the crash. I used to read the Army's crash reports in their aviation magazine just to be aware of issues that could occur while I was in the cockpit. They always figure out what really happened. Knowledge is good.

It sounds like they were coming out of a loop and almost hit the ground. Maybe pulled too hard avoiding the ground and stalled it, then snap rolled into the ground. Don't know if it had dual controls, I am wondering if the lady crop duster was flying when the crashed happened - not familiar with the airplane, etc.

This is called low level training
Sometimes I sweared, I had touched the tree tips below, but this was impossible. Nevertheless, flying with activated terrain follow radar makes a ride very bumpy at levels below 60ft AGL.

Cool stuff. I've done Nap of the Earth in scout choppers before where we did touch the trees. Good fun that.

Of course we weren't moving at hypersonic speeds either.

Could well be. Might have been one of those "Ah, shit" moments.
