CIC Map update
Hi Guys
So I have a December build 2009 325d with I drive and pro mapping. The maps are old and I would like to update them. However I have read that to do the update via usb you need to update the firmware somewhere. How can I check if this has been done?? Thanks |

Hi, I believe on the main map screen in the bottom left hand side corner there is a circle with an I in it, if there is also a tick in the circle your ok for updates via USB if not you can update via disk.
I had the same I could only update via disk tried 2018-1 disks but kept failing in the end I got a set of original 2014-1 disks and it updated straight away ( also need FSC code ) there is a very good thread here. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1432628 Good luck |

Thanks Burny I will have a look.
Out of interest when you updated to 2014 maps did this give you post code entry?? I hate not having post code entry, it makes address input such a faff. |

No problem mate.
No it didn't give postcode search I need to get my CIC firmware updated to give that. There is a guy on Ebay that does it for £50 if you do a search for CIC firmware update, seems to have good feedback but he's pretty slow at replying, Also Vorph, Bavarian Coding on Facebook but he's right down south so to far for me. |

Burny, couldn't see any circle with an i in it, I presume you mentioned 8n the bottom left corner where the vertical menu is. The only other circle represents the joystick, there's a pip on the outer edge that moves in unison with the joystick wheel as you turn it. No i in this either.

There is a picture in one of the threads about map updates that shows what I mean, it's not in the main index down the left hand side its in the bottom left corner in the map window, I will try and find the thread and copy it here

Bottom left corner white i with tick, if you have that I think your cic has had the firmware update and can do full postcode search and update via USB if you get newer maps

I see exactly what you mean, no I have not got the tick or the i. I might enquire with BMW about the firmware update, have a feeling it will be eyewateringly expensive tho!

Found out today that I can do postcode search with the 2014-1 maps.
All you do is enter the postcode in the section where you would put the city/town I don't have the I or the tick in the circle but postcode search definitely works with 2014 maps with no firmware update. |

2018-2 CIC maps will be out in the next couple of months, keep an eye out they’ll be available online (google is your friend) soon for free. Unless you travel lots in Europe you only need the West set (Europe is split into West/East due to size). After that get an FSC code but don’t pay anything over £15. A bit of research will see details of trusted providers and avoid the stealers unless you’ve won the lottery.

I've just installed 2018-1 CIC Europe West Maps via a single USB and generated my own FSC code. If you have the USB port in your glove box it's dead easy check out this thread.

Hey, I've tried to update my maps with this guide, pulled the 1b file without any problems, downloaded maps, extracted them in my PC, and installed part1 to my USB. (it was ~24gb), then i put it in my car and the car recognised it in a couple of seconds, asked for a code, successfully typed the code and then it automatically started updating. However, after like an ~hour of waiting till it gets to 100%, it got finally updated without even asking me for part2? Now it shows Europe EAST PREMIUM 2019-01 (was europe premium 2011)
I don't understand if it's successfully updated or what? The MAP itself had 5 parts, but when i extracted them, all parts was the exact same size. Now I'm confused, idk if something went wrong or if it has successfully updated |

The 24gb is the size of the full map.
The EU has been divided into two maps now. You can install one or the other but not both. It sounds like you did it correctly. If Navigation is now working you are good. |

I downloaded all five parts to one folder, then unzipped the first one to an empty USB. Installed with no issues.

Just been looking to see if I can remember how to do this. I did it a couple of years ago so thinking of going to 2020-2 maps although maybe I should wait for 2021??? I can’t even remember where I got the maps from. Who uses who for theirs?

I managed to update my CIC map even tho I have no tick in the bottom corner. However i have to say after using the TomTom Go app on my phone, i will stick to Tom Tom on my phone. It is far far superior to the BMW nav. Not bashing the BMW system but its old and not up to modern standards. One prime example i can think of and which really annoys me with the BMW nav is the fact that Tom Tom app when it tells me to turn direction it tells me the road number/name to turn into. So when you have a complicated road junction with multiple turnings you know exactly which road to take. The BMW nav just says turn left or right. This is especially helpful when on motorway junctions that have multiple exits, the BMW nav i find very sketchy here. Tom Tom gives far better instructions.
Now i just need to find a way to mirror my phone screen on my idrive screen. |

All modern sat navs or google maps are better than our old systems. I don’t know why I’m bothering to update it because I hardly ever use it and when I do need some navigational help I just use google as it’s quicker and knows about traffic issues.
Having said that, I wouldn’t mind being able to screen mirror google maps onto the screen in the car. Last edited by nomiS330d; 09-10-2020 at 01:36 PM.. |
