Android 10.25" NEW version released ?
Just recently found out that theres a new updated version of the android unit out has anyone bought it? Apparently it has 1920x720 resolution a hefty upgrade but my concern is with the CPU/audio as audio is a significant factor in my purchasing decision ? How does this compare to their older unit? Link provided below
Note I have an 07 E92 NON iDrive These are the OLD specs of the older unit https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3298...chweb201603_55 ** 3. 4G WIFI 4GB RAM 64GB ROM Version: >Android 9.0 OS >MSM8953 octa-core Cortex-A53 up to 2.0 GHz > Adreno 506 GPU >CPU built-in Hexagon 546 DSP sound quality is further enhanced > User Interface: ID7/ID6/EVO/ >Support 4G Wireless network ------------ A link to the new product -- > https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3302...7683830.pic_11 ** I've attached a photo of the new product specs. Anyone have any input compared to the old specs? Audio matters a lot to me if I have to pair this with something else to enhance the sound what would it be? An additional DSP? Any input if it would work? How would i go about it and recommendations? Last edited by f82_spooly; 01-14-2020 at 02:04 AM.. |

The 4G/64G has the black frame instead of silver and also supposedly has a better more anti-glare screen. It isn't too bad of an install and it works well. I did have to run an aux cable to to the armrest aux input for audio. I actually spliced into it and added a female 3.5mm jack to the wiring so that I could still use the normal aux input for other things if I need to. I also changed the wiring to pass the middle speaker through the unit instead of using the cheap external speaker. I copied how they did it for the same unit on my e70. For some reason the NAV audio seems to only come on when connected to AUX where on the e70 it will play over the top of the radio. I thought that connecting through the unit would enable that but it doesn't seem to for some reason. It may be a software setting or something. I will look into it a bit more and if I get it fully working I can add the details on how to wire it. It currently plays out of the center just fine with the change but it probably would have anyway so I don't see an advantage yet. I am not currently using the center idrive style controller with it. I am not sure that it really adds any advantage given that most things I do require a touchscreen and the dial feels cheaper than the BMW ones and it also takes away the center junk tray that I often set my phone in. I recommend using the factory hands free bluetooth if you have it instead of the android because the factory one has a better microphone. I also had to jam a piece of fuel line between the dash mount clip and the dash to keep it tight. Before that there was a small gap. The rubber line between the clips on each side (smaller sized line on the driver side) works great because the rubber has some flex and give to get it just as tight as it needs to be. As a tip I spent a lot of extra time on the install because i cut the hole slightly smaller than the template which was a waste of time. I ended up slowly enlarging it until it basically just matched the template anyway and it took a lot longer. I cut back the dash top layer with a utility knife and then used an oscillating saw to cut through the plastic which worked very well. HF oscillating saw: I then just touched up the edges with the utility knife. I also installed an aliexpress $60 front/rear DVR at the same time which works well but I had to use fisheye cameras when mounting in the license plate lights or I just got a recording of the ground.... -Rich

- One note: I am uncertain if MOST adapters are 'married' or proprietary to a specific type of head unit or company (as in: if the internal logic of the HU needs to decode the signal from the MOST Adapter). - I just installed a Dynavin N7- Pro, which is 95% plug and play, so it worked out very nicely. It uses a MOST Adapter in my vehicle ('08 N54 E92 335i Coupe- with Logic 7). https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1682965 |

Yes it should work fine. I will be doing it in the next week.
I have the JB4 software running on it now so it doesn't even need a special OTG cable. -Rich

There is no need for a MOST adapter, it doesn't replace the head unit in any way, you have to switch the radio to AUX to get sound. My car is 2008 non idrive logic 7 DSP professional. The aux input on the DSP professional car goes from the armrest to the amplifier instead of going to the head unit so it requires connecting into that wiring rather than to the head unit on the logic7 cars. You have to either tap into the aux input with a custom wire as I did or plug it into the armrest (or run your own wire to the amplifier). This is likely not necessary on non logic7 cars. The screen is essentially a phone mounted on the dash (yes it even has a SIM slot) but is plugged into the system but has some specialized inputs for backup camera, DVR, etc. It also has the aftermarket idrive style controller if you choose to use it. Or if you are an idrive car then it uses the factory one. You can't really control everything from the idrive controller so you end up using the touch screen in my experience. -Rich

I actually haven't driven the e90 at night yet to test it but it is the same unit (with different wiring and mounting) as the one in my e70 and the e70 does dim. With that said I don't see a setting to control how much it dims between day and night, only a base brightness and then it dims a set amount from there when the lights are turns on.. -Rich

Thanks for the reply.
If you could let me know how you get on with it at night I would be really grateful? I don't have xenons on my 330i, to be honest every BMW I have owned in the last 20 years have all had xenons so didn't even think to ask when I bought this. It is hard enough to see the road ahead anyway without having a a bright screen up on the dash blinding me as well! But I do really like the look of this, so would love to know how you get on with it in the dark. |

Avin unit
Bumping this - Avin has one that ships from the US. Ordering seems pretty straight forward and if the YouTube vids are correct, they have good customer service. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on my non idrive e93

If i were looking to do it all again i wouldn't. Cutting the dash was a pain, the head unit was good, but accessory items were absolutely terrible quality. |

-The relay makes the most sense, if the transmitter even works. No way to verify the camera because it comes with a special 4 pin connector that goes into the RCA/power cable. -Suggesting that you fuse tap power from the front of the car (behind glove box) defeats the purpose of even having wireless transmitters. The build quality of the decklid camera combo was so poor it the rubber ripped after popping it in the first time. The dash camera was also extremely poor quality for a 100$ add on. It didnt even record, even with the updated application. The head unit itself is decent though, same thing you would find in the first posts narrative. Avin just buys them, rebrands them, and offers some sort of stateside support i guess. |

On my e70 (which is really the same unit with a different plastic housing) it was wired differently and had a connection that the factory center speaker went through. So if you have the logic7 you can modify the android unit to play over the center speaker. The center speaker works normally when there is no navi directions, but when it gives them it then plays them on the center (it lowers the volume on whatever is playing and then sends the navi voice on it aswell). It works, I would have to check to see what the pins were that I used. There was no documentation, I only knew to do it because I had both units.. I also don't use the center controller at all with it, I would rather have the cubby and use the touchscreen, it works fine without it. -Rich

Does it run a external mic to the unit? I opted to get the wireless CarPlay so it’d be nice if you could run the android unit onto the oem mic. |

The e70 had a middle speaker "in" and "out" IIRC the change is to connect what was the input to the speaker from the car amplifier instead into the android unit. Then connect the speaker output from the android to the car speaker... That then plays whatever the car would send to its center speaker as a passthrough in most cases to the wiring output that they provide to the cheapo speaker for NAV audio. So I took stole two of the wires from functions I wasn't using. DVR camera video in 2 or something like that and connected those to the pins that were the middle audio in on the E70. Here are some pictures from the e70 where we should be able to re-figure it out without me pulling the unit out... I think the 4x4shop.ca install video of the 70 shows the connection to the center speaker (but just connecting the wires, not the android connector) Here are the pictures I sent to myself at the time to compare against... E70 connector tab side (note the blue stripe is to the inside of the connector (this will change speakeer polarity if you get it backwards) E70 connector other side (the glue makes the speaker stripes hard to distinguish so flip it in your mind from the previous pic) What I think was the middle out wire... The middle In wire that will have to be added. E90 connector is missing the middle in. From memory I believe the middle out wire was super long so I cut it off at the right length and added a 2 pin connector to my center channel speaker. I do recommend leaving the crappy one there just for testing, I am not responsible for your speaker. I can't remember if I had already removed some of the extra wires when I took this which then twisted and put a connector on to connect to the cars line that was going to the speaker. (These were in place of the blue/white and blue wires on the e70) I think this is enough to deduce it... -Rich

Thanks again for the help. Any feedback on the Bluetooth calling? Do you switch back to the oem system for calls or the android? I’m unsure on the microphone quality that came with the unit. |
