2011 328i Door Damage (Repaired)

Upon returning to my car after parking in a downtown parking lot I noticed that I had received quite the dent in my left rear door.

I ended up having a local paint and body shop repair it for $650. They banged the dent and creases out, faired the door, and re-sprayed it.

The end result is fair, however I wish they had done a blend with the adjacent panels. The left rear door appears to look a little brighter than the rest of the car. Which I guess is to be expected with a re-spray.

Here are some before and after shots.

looks good! I cant even tell. 650 is expensive for something someone else did to your car....I hate that stuff.

You should never respray just one panel because it will never match. Always do blending.

My old 545i had its driver door backed into and caused $2200 worth of damage. Other car's insurance covered it completely. Ended up needing a whole new door and they blended it with the front fender and rear door. Then they ended up respraying the whole area again because the paint on the door started bubbling.

Apparently titanium silver is very hard to match, but they did good both times. Just weren't sure what caused the bubbling the first time around.

I would have tried PDR (paintless dent removal) first before getting it resprayed for reasons above. It would have been less than $100 and since it wasn't on a crease shouldn't be difficult to remove. You would never know it was even there.

This guy joins the forum, creates a topic to show the damage/repair done to his car, and we will probably never hear from him again

I'm not totally new to the whole forum thing! Just moved over from bimmerforums. I'm just getting back into it. Of course I've only ever posted in regards to problems with my previous E36 and 46.

And unfortunately keeping that trend with posting the first ding in my E90.

Still pissed!

And yeah I probably should have brought it to an PDR place. The paint was scratched though so it would have needed to been touched up regardless. I'm hoping that I won't have any problems with this paint job. But the shop warrantied their repair so I have that to stand behind...

Also surprised that they did not blend it in, thought that was standard practice.

it looks ok from the pictures you send , but I m guessing it may look off from different angles or shades of light...

You should ve ask requested or ask the bodyshop if they were going to blend it . Although any reputable bodyshop would ve blend the paint with the back fender and front door unless the car was brand new which is not the case.

not always. Specially if it is a newer car and also certain panel do not need blending like the front bumper. Plus most people are not as picky as others . That is the reason one always has to ask if they are blending the panels or not , it shouldnt be that way though

I think insurance repairs or "by the book" repairs always include blending. It's when you're just paying cash for something and want it cheaper then thats where they can shave off cost for you.

insurance repair is most of the time double the cost of what you would pay out of your pocket. And they do not always blend , specially on newer cars or front rear bumpers (some shops)... It really comes down to the shop you take your car and most of the time you should discuss with the shop if they are blending the other panels as well. Some shops will try to charge more and do less . It should not be that way though

However doors should always be blend , even on newer cars
