Smog las vegas

Hello everyone,

I'm up for smog, and I've recently moved from CA. I'm FBO so obvi catless dps. What can I do to pass smog without removing my DPs and replacing with stock ones?

I hear the DP fix is unreliable and and PITA to get it to work if it even ever works.

I have my JB4 on Map 0, and will flash MHD to Map 0/Stock as well and complete a few drive cycles. But any tips about how to get around it or how to only fail X amount of monitors would be appreciated!

What did you end up doing? How did it go? I'm in Vegas and my smog is coming up soon.

I tried the DP Fix and it didn't work, so I swapped off the catless DPs for the stock cats, and passed

So you change it out every year?

From what I know hi flow cat dps will always go bad. Now, for a brand new pair would they pass? I'm not too sure. Maybe someone else can chime in who's used them in the past.

Guess I’ll just put the stock cats back on before I move there.

Well the cost of living is favorable in comparison to S. CA, so that should be a plus. As far as the SMOG check goes they only scan, no tailpipe sniffer, so you may be able to get away with your setup. I have all my cats so I can't say 100%.

Not sure if I want to keep swapping stock parts back on every year just for smog. My motor has a bunch of miles on it and the turbos are on its last leg. For the cost of rebuilding the motor and new turbos, I might as well just do an LS swap and turn the E90 into a dedicated track car lol.

A 7 dp fix does the job.

Clear the codes, enable the fix, check the state with auto-doctor to assure readiness and pass the test.

Damn, smog is pretty easy here. They don't check for anything lol, my hood didn't even get opened. Definitely going with downpipes fix next time around.

Not sure when they stopped popping hoods but they used to in the past. Glad to hear it went well for ya.

Of course my rear turbo starts leaking oil after I put the stock cats back on lol. Pretty sure it was on its way out, the added back pressure probably pushed it over the edge haha.

Were you able to bring your tools or are you going to have a shop sort it out? I take mine to Southwest Bimmers for jobs I don't particularly want to do myself.

I brought a small tool box with me that should have all the tools I’ll need to dig into this. Putting it on a lift this Saturday to pull the downpipes and passenger side motor mount bracket off to thoroughly inspect the leak. I’m hoping it’s just a oil feed line or return line leak. Hard to tell with all the crud in the way.

Hey guys! Just wanted to let you guys know that you don't have to put stock DP every year, as long as you have MHD/BM3, disable the CEL and make sure all the monitors are good then you're good to go! I have done this a billion times with my previous 335i and my current 340i always passed smog with catless DP. Hope that helped!
