Well i just got done installing VRSF down pipes. told my mom it was gonna take me an hour lol yeah rightttttt.. really thought i wasn't gonna break a sweat doing this since my dad has a shop and all the tools in the world i did this at the shops after hours. put it on the lift and got to work.

move the steering rack ok. unbolted everything ok. ECT
putting the down pipes on. well bank 2 was a B**CH wiggled the clap and it felt like it went in..maybe too easy anyways tightened it and felt around it seems like it was on(around the turbo and DPs)

bank 1 was easy but bank 2 was so hard that when it got in it felt tooo easy it was like 12:30 am I'm tired. so i double check it was in and tightened everything in put everything back together.

but i feel like bank 2 was not clamped in right
i parked the car air flow seemed even i do have golf tee mod
power is amazing but it sounds different i know it is suppose to but i dunno i wanna check it but i just drove home and its boiling.

so i was wondering worst case scenario if it wasn't clamped right what would happen.(can i hear the difference?)

all and any input would be greatly appreciated!

worst case? It will leak. You'll know pretty quickly if it is.

You can always leave the under tray off, start the car, then CAREFULLY feel around the DP's for any air movement.

put someone in the driver side and let him accelarating the car. You should stand below the car and watch it carefully.If it does leak, you should definetly hear it. You can put a little piece of clothe inside to the one back exhaust tip to close it and then to the other. No accelareting this time.This is the best test to see if there is a small leak, because you will see the smoke going out near the dps..

If they are not on right it will sound like a helicopter! You will know instantly if it was not tightened. Dps install is a pita even with the right tools. Having a lift just helps and prevents blood rushing up to your head!!

They are a bitch to change, especially if you dont unbolt The steering rack.

Don't be under-sensitive to the changes in sound... it should sound a little louder, you should be able to hear the turbos a little more, but anything else might be a bad sign.

These VRSF pipes fit very snug, when you tightened them down, did you make sure they were fully shifted and twisted as far towards the driver side as possible? If they are too close or touching the sub-frame on the passenger side, you will hear/feel obnoxious rattling in the passenger cabin.

Also, if you experience any steering wheel feel differences, like rattling or clunking on left turns(especially) you need to shift them more. I personally shifted them, put a wedge(flathead screw driver) between the pipe and subframe and then torqued the clamps down.

Good work! Took my 6 hours on jack stands with a buddy, haha.

CRAP... yeah its touching the subframe that part of the noise that was making me uneasy about the DPs.. but i guess its fine for now i have a ton of exams to study for.. so ill move it to the left after exam week.

OP, if something is leaking, you will hear it. You just have to listen for it.

Umm remember the helicopter sound you were talking about

didn't have one early this morning but then when the turbos are in low gear and about 5-6k rpms and my foot off the gas instead of the ocasonnal balanced wine that we all know i have i guess you can say a helicopter sound..

but i double triple checked this morning when it was cold that the claps were on

Clamps can be on but still leak if they are not tight enough.

You can reach the rear turbo from the top of the engine bay if you have the right swivel and universal sockets and extensions.

The front turbo might be tricky. Not much else we can do from here, if its leaking you will eventually see soot in the area of the leak.

If its leaking it usually sounds like puffing of air and diesel motor.

they are pretty tight i used an air ratchet long extensions and swivel ( i will check agin when it cools down).
but i know my downpipes are touching the subframe you think it may be the high rpm vibration on the subframe causing the noise

EDIT: Imean the power is there i think the boost gauge hit 17 PSI on map 2 its also running 50/50 93 octane and E85....for the first time..

sorry OT but OP did you get your wheels repainted? or are they that dirty? LOL i like the oem 189's in a gunmetal over OEM alloy color personally.

Downpipes on these cars is one of the least fun things I have ever done - If I had my own shop I think I would turn down the business!

Not true. You can hear big leaks (and smell it), but for small exhaust leaks you really need to put your hands around the flanges and 02 sensors. I've found leaks this way on both of my 335s. It's a good technique and yes you can easily burn yourself (done it!) but it's worth it.

Why would i be wasting my mothers time? and why would i need spanking.

all i could do is just tell one of the mechanics at the shop to fix it and they will...

Good job kid. Nice that your dad has all the cool toys you can actually get in and do the work on your car. Very rewarding if you ask me. I have an e92 with VRSF DPs and the sounds drove me crazy the first couple of weeks. But as long as they aren't hitting anything, don't worry so much.

They shouldn't rattle or vibrate at all(assuming it's not WG rattle.) If you've got rattles and vibrations then you have clearence issues(like the subframe you've mentioned) and you need to correct it..
