Availability of a 6-speed manual, AWD, available options including M package, overall interior/exterior aesthetics, comfortable, fun to drive, practical as a daily-driver, good deal on the purchase, great warranty.
I looked at several other cars (wide variety including 135i, E90 335i, S4, Cayman S, C30, C70) and this was the one that had everything I wanted with no compromises. SOLD!

I love the handling and overall quality over other manufacturers. I need a car that makes me happy and BMW has never disappointed.

The time was right. Blew my chance on a 2001 328Ci which I was going to pay for in cash. Money went up in smoke on the stock market. When my portfolio was once again burning a hole in my pocket in 2006, I said I'm getting myself one of those sweet new bodied RWD G35S. On a business trip I caught a 335i coupe on the A1A, said I'm gonna maybe order one when I get home.
imho as much as an ultra saver as I am, when the conditions are right, stock market roaring, housing market roaring, cash building up, job making bank, buying something totally wasteful like a 335i can be done. I would never buy a new car when financial conditions are uncertain or bad, like today....today is ultra save mode. |

What made us buy 3 series---- A4 was extremely boring and interior to me looked ugly, C350 had no manual option, leaving 3 as only option in our price range. Don't like G37 or IS at all so didn't even bother considering them. Once we drove the 335 we knew it was the car for us and worked hard to find the perfect one which we finally did.

bought and built up a mustang, loved the straight line speed and exhaust rumble
Then my dad and I conspired to buy my mom a car for her 50th birthday since me and my brother are no longer soccer mom children, grown and capable of our own transportation, we wanted to get rid of the ratty old chevy SUV we had and into something nice. So we surprised her after her birthday dinner with a 2011 550i with 16 mi. on it. Rewind 2 days, me, my SO and, my dad all go to take delivery. I fall the F in love with the styling/car, and damn, the power. the 60-120 acceleration was nuts on the way to our hiding spot. I know my 335i isn't a TT V8, but BMW knows how to do a TT right. So when I unfortunately had a run in with a puddle and found out what my settlement would be from USAA and had heard the tales of the N54 I went looking and found a 335i for a little more than what I got from insurance. Drove it, loved it. Everything I hated about the mustang, the 335i was that much more. No 520 lb.ft. at the wheel anymore, but I've found I like having my sides pressed against the seat bolsters a lot more than I like having my back pressed into the seat.

Got a great deal on my 328i, had every package, even has sun blinds. Doesn't have navi but my iPhone is fine at maps. Love the way it drives, very smooth.

Hey Captain Silver-Spoon, for some folks, it most definitely is. Particularly for a teenager. I just turned 40, and the 2007, 60k-mile 335i that my wife got me for my birthday is by far the nicest car that I've ever had.
In short, eat a bag of D***'s. |

Coming from the VW scene, i was subscribed to the Eurotuner Magazine, and when i first read about the N54 and all the upgrades hitting the market about 3 years ago, I wanted one bad. This year finally came time to upgrade, so i went out with my dad for some unbiased opinions. Went to Audi first, priced ridiculously for the trims and mileage, next went to Mercedes Benz and took a C300 4matic out for a test drive, obviously made a huge impression, and i was sitting there, pen in hand, ready to sign on the dotted line, but i had to go test drive my beloved N54 before I could pull the trigger.
Long story short, 335XI FTW, not a car in the world i would rather be driving... except maybe a Aston Martin DBS... or a Ferrari 458... or an Aventador... but i can get 5 brand new 335's for the price of one of those. and 5 N54's bolted togeather would destroy all those cars. |

Some of us have decent jobs that allow us to buy nice cars. I got mine 2 years ago when I was 18, payed for it in cash.
Why 335i? Best bang for your buck. I was looking into e46 and e90, e92 m3's but the latter were out of my price range, and the e46's seemed kinda dated. So I went with the next best thing.
