BMW Platinum Extended Warranty vs Ford ESP vs Warranty Direct
So I just purchased a 2007 335i Convertible that is fully loaded with all electronic gizmos including the idrive. I have about 35k miles, but only 8 months left on the original manufactures warranty.
Before you respond with "try using search" or a similar comment I have done my research and need some feedback on specific questions which I have not seen the answer to yet. I have already decided to purchase an extended warranty so comments regarding if I should get one or if it's worth it are irrelevant. I live in California and with the extended warranty laws and limited choices I have narrowed my selection down to 3. I just need help deciding which one to get! Also, don't confuse extended warranty with the extended maintenance plan, I have seen that way too often. So I'm looking at the top-tier plans with exclusionary policies, here is the lineup: 1. BMW "Platinum" 7/100k, $50 deductible, $4150 MSRP (might be able to negotiate for somewhere in $3500-$4000) 2. Ford Extended Service Plan (ESP) "PremiumCare" 7/100k, $100 deductible, $2500 3. Warranty Direct "ElitePlus" 7/100k, $200 deductible, $1500, $200 deductible (~$2400 for $100 deductible) The most important thing for me is easy claims processing. If I have an issue I want it to be addressed in a timely manner without hassles. What has your RECENT experiences been with any of the 3 above? I know the least about Ford ESP, your experience with that warranty getting work done at BMW Dealership would be greatly appreciated. I have heard some good, some bad experience stories from Warranty Direct however their BBB rating is A+ (as is Ford ESP). I think we will all agree that if $$ is not a factor to go with the BMW Platinum. However given it's high markup, is it worth going either of the other two for similar coverage? If the coverage/price is similar for Ford ESP vs WD, does it make logical sense to go with Ford ESP given that it's backed by Ford? Somehow I feel better that I can just drive up to a B&M location if I need to speak to someone face to face... If anyone works at a BMW dealership, your feedback on these 3 warranties regarding claims processing would be most beneficial. Thanks. |

My uncle has Ford ESP on his range rover... the ford esp is VERY popular with the LandRover LR3 owners (google it) They have had nothing but good things to say about it. I also have a very good contact... his prices are just above COST!!!!! He sold me warranties on my SL600, SL55 AMG and CL600. (we used the chrysler service contract for that)... and again I got all of mbworld using him for that... his name is Michael Case... his site is
http://michaelcase.wordpress.com/ and www.factoryplans.com (for a quote) or call direct line at (630) 231-3464 or emailing sales@factoryplans.com to confirm coverage. On an 08 335XI here is prices (i ran the quote on the site): New PremiumCARE New PremiumCARE 5 Stars Review Plan 7 Years Mileage Plan Code Price $50 deductible 36,000 PC736I5 $895 48,000 PC748I5 $1,270 60,000 PC760I5 $1,555 75,000 PC775I5 $2,245 100,000 PC7100I5 $2,530 |

OP, how are you getting the $2500 quote for Ford ESP?
I got a quote from this website: http://www.fordespwarranty.com Comes out to $3800 for PremiumCare 7/100 $50 deductible. Strangely, it was $3100 a few weeks ago. Not sure what changed. |

The esp does look pretty good. What are the pros and con between the BMW CPO vs Ford ESP? I plan on buying out my lease 08xi w/ 42k im sure i can get it for under 30k w/o CPO and buy this ESP if its worth it.

My dealer quoted me $2200 for the BMW 7/100k plan with $50 deduc, I paid $2000 for it. Is it a California thing? My original purchase was a 2007 CPO as well, maybe it's based on type of vehicle though. As in, an M3 would cost more than a 1 series etc... What did you end up going with?

ok, that's kind of what I was getting at, a graduated scale based on model type. But, 335i Convo is worth DOUBLE the cost of a 328i for warranty? Wow.

morfinx,
First time I ran the quote it came out close to $2700 but they also had sent me an email promo to save $185, that's how I ended up with ~2500. I just rant another quote just now and it does look like the prices have changed. It now shows 3025 for 7/100 with 100 deductible but interestingly 7/100 with 50 deductible comes up at 3095 just a few bucks more...the same $185 does apply (got the same email) so it looks like the best price is around $2850 now instead of $2500. It seems like prices may be jumping around, you may want to try again using different deductible options and see what you get. What's weird is that when I first tried it I got something like $4500+ which didn't seem right, tried it again and got the 3025 and 3095 consistently....their computers might be glitchy. And yes, I got the $4150 MSRP from the document you just posted. The 335i is category B, for your 328i it should be $3650 for the same coverage. And Philz...be careful when comparing pricing, make sure you are comparing apples to apples (powertrain vs gold vs platinum). Coverage can make a huge difference in pricing. |

Also my manufacture warranty doesn't expire until mid 2011 so I have procrastinated a bit... But most likely will pull the trigger for ESP Premium care in the coming months. Who knows they may even have a holiday season sale!!

Yup looks like it's settled on those prices...huge jump from the 2700 i was getting earlier this year!
Although if I go through www.factoryplans.com from someone else's post, I see the same coverage for 3510. Something is very fishy... |

Does anyone have any claims experience with the Ford ESP program? I'm about a year from the factory warranty ending on my '08 335xi Coupe, and I'm starting to think about extended coverage.
The BMW dealer quoted $3,800 for the BMW Gold 7/100 w/ $100 deductible, although I'm sure that there is a little negotiation room. The Ford ESP 6/100 w/ $100 deductible is $3,025, and $50 deductible is $3,150. Any suggestions? |
