how to protect a fresh full respray

Afternoon,

I have just had my car fully resprayed so it is immaculate but I am paranoid to drive it often as I don't want any chips or stuff like that after ive just spent a lot getting it done

is there any such thing that can be done to prevent chips or marks to the paint?

thanks

Bonnet Bra and then give the car a good wax after a few weeks?

Paint Protection Film is the best way to go, but it's not cheap, it's essentially a clear wrap, you don't have to do the entire car.

Or a ceramic coating will help. To be honest to get the best results you need a full detail and refinement, and then get it protected too. A ceramic coating creates a new top layer that is much stronger than lacquer.

You need to get in contact with someone like:

https://www.facebook.com/MidlandsCarCare

They do paint protection and are in Walsall. I've heard good reviews about them too. Not sure what prices are like but I'm guessing £500ish

Bonnet Bras aren' that good as it creates a layer of fungi underneath if not maintained and the bra continues to scratch the paintwork should anything get in between..

Clear wraps are one way but don't apply anything for a good few days after the paint has been done.

Get it to a pro for good few coats of protection or do this yourself at your own risk and just keep maintaining.

I'd apply masking tape to mine when it gets resprayed to avoid stone chips. Looks rubbish but better to have it protected.

Once the novelt wears off, you simply peel it off and it cannot damage ur paint as they're adhesiveness cannot harm ur paint when peeling.

From previous experience with my show cars it is sods law that your car becomes a stone magnet lol I tried everything to stop chips even sitting 10 bus lengths away from any other car and at some point I would always get a chip somehow in my freshly painted car. Iv looked into everything and it seems to be that the professional protections are just as much as a respray, anything you apply yourself doesn't work and bonnet bras only protect a small area which will mark over time as well as they look ugly.

Paint protection wraps like venture shield etc are really the only way to go.

But it isn't cheap if done properly. My mates had his GTR done after a full respray and the protection (after a proper detail too) was something like £1400.

clear wrap for protection is the way to go could be pricey though, do your research on the companies, cheap is not always good as some companies qualities are REALLY bad!

ceramic coating such as Gtechniq C1 will effectively give another layer of lacquer. I'd advise taking it to a detailing professional to have it detailed and prepped before the coating.

Wont be cheap but will pay for itself in the long run as it supposedly gives 3-5 years protection if applied correctly (goes back to my point about taking it to a pro).

Thanks for the replys people. If its going to be near the £1000 ill rather just get it re sprayed again next year then lol

Didnt think that stuff would be so expensive!

Clear wrap sounds good but i want that nice shine when its washed and look just like paint? And my insurance won cover any sort of vinyl wrap or colour change which is why i went for re spray (same colour)

Tbh even spending £500 on protecting it i wont bother as only a few panels will occur chips so i can just get em re done for around that as and when it happens.

I would use a nano coating. They provide an invisible protective layer that is scratch and chemical resistant. They are also hydrophobic and make cleaning easier and less frequent. You need a polisher to remove them. Something like this:

http://www.gyeonquartz.com/product-guide/q2-mohs-plus

It’s a real pain to apply, but worth it in the long run.

You need to leave the paint for 4 to 5 weeks, even if oven cured before putting anything on it that will stop the paint breathing and prevent it from fully curing.

Paint Protection Film is the correct name for a clear wrap.

You'd be looking at £500 easily for a full protection detail, using the Gtechnic system, EXO is supposed to be fantastic.

£500 including paint correction before apply the coating? That would not surprise me. If the car has just been painted paint correction should be minimal. I've applied the coating myself, so it was only the cost of coating, around £80. it's not easy and a bit stressful, but its not out the realms of DIY.

Paint Protection Film will cost well in excess of £2000 for a complete coverage. Also, fresh paint must be allowed to cure for at least 30 days (I would allow 60 days) before applying any sealants or waxes to prevent 'fish eyes'. Nothing other than a bonnet bra or Paint Protection Film will prevent stone chips etc. Nano sealants such as Gtechniq will provide 'some' protection against light scratches, but certainly not stone chips etc.

Ceramic coatings aren't designed to protect against stone chips. It certainly helps with swirls etc.
