Urgent - front strut top nut

Hi, sorry for the long post
Installing a coilover on my car today, the front strut kept spinning when I was tightening the nut.
Seems like a special tool is required like this:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...3046sch01a-03/

Won't have time to order one from ECS as already disassembled all the suspension component today at a DIY workshop and need to go back to do the front early tomorrow.

Top mount nut on Bilstein is 22mm while the BMW one is 21mm, so, can't even try to reuse the stock nut.

May I ask how did you do yours?
Or any idea as in torquing it properly?
Would you just use impact gun? (the strut will still spin but the impact gun is much faster that torque would have been applied to the nut, but just not sure if it reaches the torque spec)

With the 3 smaller strut bolts tightened properly, is it a serious matter with the top nut not being properly tightened at 64Nm?

*The same for the rear top mount nut, but since they are just 27Nm & has got room for a spanner to hold the nut, I just used hand to tighten it.

The front end link mounting point on Bilstein is also different to the BMW one. Raise the wheel hub a bit on the other side helps and the front end go through the mounting hole on the Bilstein strut but not sure if this is the correct way to do?

I am going back to the workshop early tomorrow and to finish it, otherwise, they will keep charging me hourly hoist hiring fees.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't use a impact gun!

I made a tool that could hold the larger but while tightening the smaller one on top.

It doesn't have to be very tight.
It would be OK to drive home hand tight.

Not sure about the end links not fitting.

And again don't use an impact gun!

Found that impact gun may generate heat to the strut and damage the seal in the strut too when I got home just now.
I have already used it on the driver side.
Will try to hand tighten it tomorrow for the passenger side.

So, without that special tool, there is no way to tighten it properly?

If the top nut is not tighten properly, what sort of damage could be?
The top nut is a nylon nut, and should be for one time use only.
I don't think I will unscrew the driver side one but just want to check what could happen if that nut is under or over tightened?

If it is not done up tight enough it may make knocking sounds.

Without a special tool you can only make something yourself.
I got a 21mm socket, welded it to a open ended spanner so a 13mm socket and extension bar could fit through it.

Hope you got it sorted.

Go to Bunnings and buy the plumber's tube spanner set. It's not expensive. The one you are after has about 5 double ended attachments, one of which is 22mm.

Up to you if you want to tighten using the Bunnings tool or via the strut shaft and use the Bunnings tool to counterhold. Depends what tools you have available
