Liqui Molly?

Hey guys so my car is due for an oil change it's a 2008 E93 335i with about 102,9xx miles on it and I live in FL. I've always used Castrol 0w-40 European Formula on the car since it was always available to pick up at the closest Walmart near me. It's been good no issues with the oil but now it seems that they stopped carrying it in stores. I can still order it online but I started doing some research and I came across liqui Molly oil. I've heard good things about it and FCP seems to sell a whole kit including the filter for about $62 which I think sounds great. Now my question here is have you guys had any issues with this oil? If I do decide to change to this FCP recommends getting these extra additives to clean out the engine since it's being switched to a different oil. Is it worth getting the extra kit for an extra $77? Any help would be appreciated!

You can't get Castrol 0W40 in stores? I see it everywhere. But luqui Moly is good stuff.

Hmmm, in Sarasota (I went to HS there) that seems weird. Walmart carries it here as well as all the normal parts store.

And no, I run Mobil1 0W-40, always have.

Damn no way! What hs? And I went to all the Walmart's here in Sarasota and also the one in Lakewood ranch and couldn't find it there. I want to know if there's a difference in the oil and also if that additives kit is worth getting

+1 on Liqui Moly! Its great, and definitely recommend. Currently running Liqui Moly Longtime High Tech on my car. I heard they recently came out with the new Liqui Moly Molygen. Im planning to give it a try on my next oil change.

That looks interesting I did a quick read on it and I might look into that, do you know when it'll be available for order? And if i get the high tech would you recommend getting the additives along with the first oil change or it doesn't matter and I heard it's suppose to run cooler have you seen that be the case?

Most modern synthetic oil brands are really good, what oil you run is not nearly as important as how often you change it.

They are already on sale. You can get it off Amazon. I usually just use the high tech on it own, no added additives. Runs perfectly for me.

Here's a link on Amazon:

How often do you change your oil or think it's a good interval? I normally do 3k-4K

Thanks for the link man! I wouldn't do the additives every time just because I think it's over kill but I wasn't sure if it was good to do just for the first one just because of the different type but I sense that it's it really necessary at this point

No problem, your welcome! It would be your decision from there. But I'm sure other people on these forums can possibly chime in on this. Best of luck!

Normally every 3500 miles but sometimes I go to 5000 miles and I test my oil a couple of times a year.

Okay so My intervals aren't bad and where do you get it tested? Like just a shop that does custom work like mods tunes etc?

3-4k is overkill with good synthetic oil. Black stone labs is a good place to have your oil tested. Many on here have gotten tests around the 8-9k mark and their oil was still looking good. I change mine about every 7k and generally use mobil1 0w40 because it's a tried and true, decent oil for a good price.

So you're saying there really isn't any point to be getting an oil change 3-4K? And blackstone labs huh thanks man I've never heard of them but when I get this done I'll sure to get a kit from them I appreciate it!

Correct. At the time our cars were made, BMW actually recommended 15,000 mile intervals, which they later retracted because that's simply too long if you want a long life out of your engine/turbos (if equipped). With any modern synthetic oil, 7,500 miles is pretty standard and is a safe OCI even without doing blackstone analysis testing. Many have found though, that even at 7,500 miles, their oil was still in pretty good shape. The way I see it, oil is cheap insurance so I stick to approximately that interval.

Thank you sure for that info I will start doing that and it will save me some money on oil annually I went ahead and ordered the liqui moly molygen because I want to try it and see how that goes so my next oil change is coming up and I want to see how well it holds up. After this change I will wait for approximately 7.5k and send my oil to black stone labs to see how my oil is doing. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out and giving me some info on this

Anytime bud, glad I could help. Keep us apprised on how the blackstone analysis comes out! It's usually pretty informative.
