Is there a BMW sub upgrade available?

Hey guys,

Was just wondering if there is an actual sub upgrade that can be bought from BMW that will not void the warranty? I would really like to get a custom setup, but I do not want to void the warranty/leave the door open for potential problems down the line.

I wouldn't have a problem placing one of those all-in-one unites in the trunk either, but still, i don't want to void the warranty.

Yeah, he should have left the trailing period off his reply to make it only 2 keystrokes.

To the OP, something like the Infinity Basslink might be your best bet if if you want to keep it as close to stock as possible. Still need to tap into the rear sub outputs though, so yeah, that would void your warranty. The question is...would BMW really discover you did this.

Nooooooo. Friends don't let friends put Basslinks in BMWs. I'm sure it's perfect for the Kia Soul...

Thanks guys. I thought that was the answer I would get, but thought I would see if I was missing something.

If a basslink is going to void the warranty, might as well go all out huh?

I was thinking of getting a fitted wedge shaped box with 2 12's in the trunk with a nice channel amp with a built in x over. I feel the L7 really lacks bass and this would be an easy yet noticable improvement. All i need to do is tap into the outputs for the factory subs correct ?

Phase 2 would be to replace the tweeters with some nice silk domed tweeters i have.

Very amusing post, but on a serious note, to Mr. T, is the factory underseat subwoofer in the optional M3 premium sound system the exact same item as found in the lesser models, like the 335? Or does BMW use different subwoofers in their different audio option packages?

The size ("8) of the woofers and the enclosures are the same across all OEM sound systems; the woofer's impedance is different.

that thing is precisely what i wanted someone to make. sweet! the JL stealthbox is $$$$ and with (2)13" subs it's total overkill for what i want.

This one looks pretty neat but I can't get my head around how its meant to work. Surely the boot/trunk base cover would need to be lifted off ?
It wouldn't work with the cover in place ?

I think a lot of folks would consider that BSW subwoofer kit a bit of a waste. If you're willing to spend almost $750 on a sub/amp kit, I would do something custom with a better amp, and something that doesn't fire straight up into the top of your trunk. And +1 to what the hell you're supposed to do with the original floor cover. Can't imagine it would sound that great with it covering the sub. Take the floor cover out, and that pretty much kills your "stealth" install, as well most practical use of your trunk.

I really like this enclosure I saw a while back...

Have you heard it? I'm guessing you haven't, so it's unlikely your speculation about value for money has any basis in reality since you have no point of comparison.

The tub is a perfect location in these cars, and it sounds superb. Read a review or two:

http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/pr...m-E90-E91-E92/

The trunk floor is not an issue at all. A/B blind tests we did revealed that NO ONE could tell whether it was installed or not. If by some incredible genetic miracle you can, take the handle out of the floor for a "port."

Guys,
Actually (and I have to admit to my surprise) it does work very well

As Micah say the cover is no issue at all,

what I had issues with was with the price that did not fit my budget at all so I build my own , since I did not know if it was going to work I build a very average box using 5/8th MDF and a kenwood sub
I have to say i'm very impressed and happy with the result , obviously it does not look as good as the BSW unit but for a total cost including the sub of $100 foe a box that's hidden I cant complain
I used this for the very low bass as I have SWS-8s under the seats

here's some pics
