Scott, so there's sufficient infrastructure at that location right? Parking, tables, rest room, bbq pits??
Looks good so far, maybe we'll do a recon this saturday. Once we've gotten solid leads on venue we can work on other details. I realize this is your intention and appreciate your efforts to spur things on. A picnic would definitely require more close cooperation.

There's small BBQs there already, though I was planning on bringing a fold-out (almost) full-size propane grill -- the Tailgator (a great Coleman product). As for Johns and all, there's more bathrooms at the GF Park entrance, but I think there's enough to satisfy our group size...and parking was plentiful last time I was there... I will do recon this weekend as well...I love driving the area anyway.

As for tables and all, they have about 5-6 large picnic benches and maybe a few folks could bring some folding chairs or loungers...
This will have to be a pretty decent sized collaborative effort... What do you expect...25-30 peoples (spouses, kids, and significant friendlies included), or maybe 50+...?? I say the more the merrier!

Yep, about 30 is a good guesstimate at this time, of course more is better.
As mentioned, once the basics are decided on, we can go on to campaign the outing We'll see how else we can build up the event/day's program in the next few days. The picnic is really the anchor point for the day, there should be other activities.

In May I think there may be a park entrance fee for non-Fairfax County residents...here's a link to the park website:
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/riverbend/ Also they have a covered (pretty large) picnic facility...it rents for $100 for the day, and it'd be pretty cheap per car to do it...like $5 per person...why not call ahead and see if we can book it. I don't mind working the deposit...better plan ahead!

Between owned grills, chairs, and coolers...and a couple strategic Costco purchases and everyone chipping in for the site rental...we could have ourselves quite a day!!
I already put a feeler out there for a BMW related sponsor for giveaways or maybe some bucks towards the group event... More on that later on...

So what are the rules here? I'm am currently BMW-less for the next few months and awkwardly feeling weird about showing up in a VW. Is there such a thing as "picnic crashing" ? ...or do other German cars need to find their own picnic?

Happy to contribute as well. I'll keep tabs on things here and do what I can to lend a hand. I think River Bend will be a great place to have the event. Remember: No Drinking in the Park!

I just found out about http://www.socializr.com/. Like evite, only better and aimed at letting a bunch of friends plan meetings, get togethers etc.
Just a thought that it might be a good way for all of us to see what each of is doing etc. Check it out.

Sounds like fun guys, I'm down for whatever. I agree about the kabobs, men can never stay away from meat on a stick.
River Bend sounds cool, but I posted this in one of the other threads after being told not to Last year, we had an X5world meet at Cameron Run Park, just off of 495 and Wilson Bridge in VA. Although its kinda far for us MD folks, it wasn't that bad. There's a big parking lot that we used to take pics, a covered picnic area, bathrooms, playground, etc. Pretty good site for a meet and if anyone wants me to get info, let me know.

Thanks pseto...
Guys keep it coming. Due to the meet concept, we'd need to finalize dates and venue far ahead of normal meet planning/discussion pace/schedule. The picnic will require close cooperation among us for various details. Awesome support so far, and with Scott's initiative, I have no doubt this will be an enjoyable meet.
