That appears to be the old (pre-29.2) screen. Mine is now much more silvery, as of 3 months ago. Do you have the search feature in your NAV?

However, we have only hypothesized that the screen color correlates to 29.2. There are various software components that get updated, and for many of us with 29.2, our NAV got updated at the same time.

You can get more info on the internal software by doing stuff like this:
http://e90.wetpaint.com/page/BC+hidden+menus?t=anon

However, nowhere in those menus will it actually say "29.2", you just have to put together a lot of clues or ask your SA outright.

Edit: looking at it again, it also could be poor color transfer in the picture... the search feature is a better indicator anyway.

Will check for the search feature as I do not know off the top of my head if I have it. All I know is the car is a different animal.

BTW I have not yet figured out how to decipher the info provided by the diag mode. Google searches are almost useless.

Anyway, to test if you have the search, go to "Information on Location" under the NAV system, and browse through any set of categories. If you have the old NAV, it will take you straight to a list of nearby stuff. If you have the new NAV, it will first give you the opportunity to enter a search term and a search radius. HTH.

I was able to do this search with a radius on my 2006 330i. I don't think that is indicative of "newer" software. I received that feature on my '06 car sometime in 2007 after a software update.

When you guys go WOT (and I assume that is pedal to the floor contact), at any RPM less than 3500, does the car just kinda sit there? If so, is that what it was like before 29.2 also?

Nice. His pics look really brown on my monitor, like the old version. Also, I think you might be comparing apples to oranges as your pics show the Euro version.

As for searching, my build date was in September '06 and I had no search until I got 29.2. I am sure of it, because it drove me absolutely bonkers that there was not at least a simple search in the old version. Maybe that came out earlier than 29.2, but if you DON'T have it, then you know for sure you have a really old version.

what do you need to do to reproduce the "burping sound"? let go of the throttle at 2,000 rpm in 1st?

just look at the symbols and how the i is shaped. Also look at the Navigation icon, no road on there. He's got the silver.

Just checked and I most certainly have the "Search" feature in the Nav setting. My BMW SA just called and wants me to take the car in.

Just spoke to my SA rep. He verified they upgraded me to v30 the other night. He said he has no knowledge of anyone having the same issue that we are all experiencing. I am going in to let them drive it so I can have it documented. Other than that we are all F'ed until BMW comes up with a new update and I have a feeling it will not be soon. Trust me, I know how you all feel

I wrote a bunch of places in an effort to get some sort fo press. I know it is a long shot but I figured it could not hurt. At least MT wrote me back.

Dear Motor Trend reader,

Unfortunately, due to the volume of mail we receive, we are unable to assist readers with resolving their automotive ownership problems.

We appreciate you sharing your experiences with us, as it does help us to monitor service and quality trends. We sympathize with your situation and encourage you to work with the dealership to resolve the problem. In some cases, it may be necessary to contact the manufacturer’s district service manager, the manufacturer, or even investigate your state’s “lemon laws.” Your dealership should be able to provide you with this information, and often it can be found in your owner’s manual.

Best of Luck,
MT

How about we organize some type of caravan and drive up to BMWNA HQ, make lots of noise and have their engineers come out and drive our cars and tell us if this is normal. If all else fails, bring in the media. That would sure get their attention.

Meet with another 335 owner yesterday. We drove eachothers cars, (his a 2007 built) and he confirmed that mine was totaly crap before 3500rpm. Honestly, what's the point in trying to get BMW to resolve this? Best way is to walk away from the brand itself..

Then I drove his Vishnu V3 tuned. OMFG!!!
I don't care anymore what kind of BS update BMW will try next, Im getting a V3!!!
That thing was an animal!!!

a little of topic, but he also had the Performance short shift kit with the M-knob. It was brilliant!

If anyone wants to caravan to BMW HQ in NJ, I'm game

BTW, I'm taking my car in on Monday for stupid annoying brake squeak. I noted in my online appointment booking that I am still pissed with the 29.2 crap....just to remind them.
I will bring it up in person again too, of course.

Idea for an easy test

Maybe someone has suggested this already, but I haven't seen it. Seems to me like a really easy and good test to perform:

SOMEONE has to have a 29.2+ car with a boost guage, even if it's one you can just attach and run through the window temporarily. I know it's odd for people to have boost guages on stock cars, but I bet someone does. Then we get someone PRE 29.2 who has a boost guage (if they have a piggy, they could just remove it for this test) and get them to log their boost at various gears and rpms. I would love to see the comparrison of what our POS cars are making <3000 in each gear vs a pre 29.2 car.

I'm in for the NJ trip. Got my picket signs ready. I might be a little late, though, because I have 29.2.
